In other news, Schaub could easily become the long-term option at QB that Carr was never going to be and be productive enough to make this trade look much better than you all think. As a Falcons fan, I wanted Schaub to be the starter going forward.

Even if he becomes a very good starter, the Texans have the 26 year old QB for maybe 7 good years while the Falcons will have the opportunity to take two extra potentially great starters as well as now having the opportunity to get LaRon Landry while the Texans just blew their opportunity to grab Peterson.

I heard that they had Lynch over Peterson on their draft board.

What a horrible trade for the Texans. They need those extra picks.

I think this trade makes the chances of Schaub developing into a great QB less likely now because they just severely damaged their ability to draft O-linemen.

After saying that, I think they have to take Blalock with their first rounder now - even if that is a reach.

I agree it seems like a lot on the surface, but you can just as easily say Schaub could potentially turn into the greatest QB in NFL history as say the Falcons can potentially take great starters. There are absolutely no guarantees in the draft.

I don't even know what to say or how to react at this point. They are worse than I ever could have imagined.

I agree there are no guarantees, but the chances of taking two good starters (I'll admit great was an exaggeration) with very high second round picks is much higher than a 26 year old QB becoming incredible (which is what Schaub will have to do to justify this deal).

I felt like on age alone, Schaub didn't justify more than a first round pick and even then not a top 10. No way is he close to worth two second rounders and dropping two spots in the top 10 - putting you out of the race for the far and away best RB in the draft.

Don't get me wrong, I like this deal as a Falcons fan. I just don't think it's that lopsided.

I fail to see how dropping from 8th to 10 takes houston out of the run for AP. The Falcons aren't going to draft a RB and neither are the Dolphins. I guess it's possible someone trades up with the Fins to grab him, but I don't think its incredibly likely.

I could easily see the Dolphins trading down for extra picks. They're an old team and have multiple needs for young players.

Buffalo and Green Bay are potentially teams that could look to trade up and the cost will likely be less now that they'll be looking to move to 9 instead of 7. Every spot in the top 10 is very valuable and the difference in one or two spots is tremendous.

It may not take them completely out of it, but moving down added to giving up two second round picks is ridiculous.

Good for Houston, getting a QB and all, but who is going to keep him up-right behind that crappy O-Line? Carr is getting shafted here, IMO. I'd like to see some of these front office guys take the punishment he has, and (apparently) without complaint.

Matt Schaub has signed a 6 year, $48M  deal with the Texans. I think we know who is going to be the starter now.

48 MILLION! For a guy who has only thrown a few hundred passes in the NFL. Good lord.

Although I guess they do throw around that kind of money to rookies who've never even thrown a pass in the NFL.

Smith said the Texans are trying to trade Carr, the starter since the franchise's inception. Carr completed 60 percent of his passes in five seasons, but also threw 65 interceptions and was sacked 249 times.

"We're working with his representatives and David to find a place for him to continue his NFL career," Smith said. "Matt is our starting quarterback. We're trying to help David find another place. We're trying to trade him today, maybe the next couple of days."

It's only really like a 3 year/ 20 mil deal with 7 million gauranteed.

I hate the way the release the information on these contracts, so misleading.

He can come to Oakland :D. He'll fit right in since we don't have an offensive line either.

congrats Texan fans. You now have a backup QB as your starter and still no Reggie Bush. How is that all working out for you?

I don't know whats worse, the contract, or the arse raping they took in terms of draft picks.

I love the point that Jim Rome made on his TV show today. The Texans passed up Matt Leinart, Vince Young, and Jay Cutler to end up with Schaub.

LOL...to draft a guy who some didn't even think was even the best defensive player on his own college team.

the only good point Rome has ever made. Probably means he read it in the paper that morning

How about Houston trades Carr for a 5th round pick to the Pack and then we trade Aaron Rodgers and that 5th round pick for Moss? Sounds pretty good to me :D

Especially since you're trading the 5th round pick to both Houston and Oakland :D

Whoops  I messed that up.

I meant to add that Houston would trade us a lower round pick, probably a 6th round pick, as well. Then we use that pick and Rodgers and ship them off to Oakland. Of course, the chances of this happening are about as slim as winning the lottery.
