My brother just called and has 5 bleacher tickets to the game May 4th (Friday) against Washington @ 1:20. Now, I have been to Wrigley many times, but this will be the first time in the bleachers, so I have some questions for those who have been to the bleachers a lot.

1. I know they are general admission tickets, so how early should we stand in line to get good seats (first or second row)

2. Left Field vs. Right Field

3. Any other advise, comments, concerns, etc.

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

1. For a Friday afternoon, I'd say an hour before the game is acceptable, or even later, but I'll leave that up to debate.

2. I still kinda like RF better then LF. I used to be strongly in the LF sucks side (in case you didn't know, there is a rivalry between the 2 sides), but I sat in LF a couple of times and have softened that stance. As far as which side is better to sit on, I don't think it makes a huge difference. It's all a matter of which Cubs OF you want to sit by and which opposing OF you want to jeer.

3. If you want to drink cheaply there are lots of wants to get alcohol into the game. But I'll err against mentioning them on the board because technically its against Wrigley Field rules. If theres interest I'll mention the tips, but most are just common sense if you know that you are allowed to bring outside beverages into the park.

i didnt like the bleachers at all and never intend on going back

ill stay in my field box

dont expect to hear any inteligent baseball talk either, everytime ive gone the biggest retards are always close by.

like last year i sat in the bleachers the 3rd game of the reds series in April when Zambrano faced Milton (i think thats his name)

the people behind me kept saying Maddux sucks this (cubs fans) and i go you know he isint pitching right, they go really, well he still sucks

just my opinon, you may love it.

The gates open about two hours before the game. Friday games won't fill up as quickly as weekend games, but part of the bleacher scene is getting there early, taking in BP, and, uh, "interacting" with opposing players. There was talk that they were going to adjust the timing of BP this season so that fans could see more of the home team's BP, but I don't know whether that will actually happen. Getting there early also gives you a better chance at a BP ball.

I like LF more. Early in the season if the wind is blowing in (and it's chilly), sitting in the lower part of LF completely blocks it and makes it a lot warmer. You have the home bullpen in front of you, which makes it easier to keep track of who's warming up. No problem with the sun in your eyes (not as much of an issue with the 1:20 starts). And you don't have to put up with those yahoos in RF.

If you smuggle booze in, be forwarned. Enforcement didn't used to be an issue, but now they have a lot more security out there specifically looking to bust people for smuggling in alcohol and underage drinking. I've seen a lot of people booted for both offenses over the past couple of years.

I brought a keg in when we went. I told the usher that it was a baby stroller.

Did you polish it off by the 3rd inning, Cuse?

Next time just put it under your jersey and tell 'em you're expecting.

Right now I'm not far from looking like I have a keg in my gut so it wouldn't be that far off!

I'd just like to say that I am of age, and would like to know how to smuggle alcohol in. If you don't want to post it on the message boards, please PM it to me.

Personally, I'm not a big drinker.

If I am going to Wrigley I am going to enjoy the game, not get trashed.

The few times that I have had bad experiences at Wrigley is because I was surrounded by drunken idiots.

Give me a hot dog and a Diet Coke, and let me watch the game.

Am I a loser?

Nope, I agree with you. I love baseball too much to be in a drunken stooper during a game.

Me either and I never drink if my kids are with me.

Beer is god's way of telling us he loves us.

Get in line and get a good seat.

Don't sit in the first row of the bleachers, you won't be able to see.

If you want to get a shot at a HR ball sit in between rows 3- 20.

I like to sit between CF and LF in the third row.

Bring sunscreen, share your peanuts, and don't expect much indepth analysis of the game.

I love the bleachers, but they are not for everyone.

No way. I almost always watch them sober. I like a drink or two during the game, but not enough to pay the ridiculous amount that Wrigley sells beer for.

With the last few years, drinking at the ballgame has become a necessity. I almost never drink when I sit in the rest of the park, but if the bleachers it feels like a necessity and part of the culture.

1). The best looking girls sit in the CF bleachers.

2). RF bleachers are for drunks who still scream for Sammy. (j/K).

3). Get there at least when the gates open. The crowds pack in quickly. If you care where you sit (in the first 4 rows) get there early.

4). There is nothing like BP in the bleachers. You can interact with the players (tastefully & they will be very cool to you) and most of the time you can get a BP ball. I have a rare Todd Hundley HR BP ball. Jason Bere also threw me a BP ball, and Vladdy was kind enough to hit one out to me as I was walking to my seating area.

5). Alcohol isn't a mandatory thing, but it is encouraged!

6). Relax and have fun! Bring some sunscreen if you're going in the summer time. Check the wind that day as well.

Thanks for all of the advice. I knew you guys would give me some quality feedback.

Like I said earlier...I sat in many places around the stadium, and have been on a rooftop across the street, I just haven't sat in the bleachers.

The other cool thing is that I am going with my two brothers, my uncle, and my dad (all huge Cubs fans) and none of us have ever been in the bleachers before, so I am looking forward to it.

Keep the words of wisdom coming...only about two more months before I go.

Thanks again!

Right field sucks.

be semi-aware during BP. I've seen a couple people get conked by either balls or people going after balls.

Bring in a giant bag of peanuts and eat yourself silly.

Read a copy of the heckler while you're waiting for the game to start.

The old family section in the leftfield corner doesn't fill up as fast, if you're kinda late. It also gets the least sun, so depending in whether you want that or not, I thought i'd throw that out there.

The old guy telling the rambling stories about how he skipped horsedriving school and came to games when Ernie Banks wasn't born yet and sex only cost a nickel is probably Fred Hornkohl.

Love ya, Fred! See you in May!

Last June, I went to a Brewers game with Vance and Laura and Sethuel and others. During BP, Will Ohman flipped a ball up into the stands. Vance and Laura both botched it, and it landed at my feet. First time in 50 years of going to Wrigley Field that I left with a baseball !!!

Thanx guys for the kind words. (I think)

I always forget if gates open 1 1/2 or 2 hours before the game.

Anyways, you want to be there when the gates open when sitting in the bleachers. Batting practice is great. You will have no problem getting good seats for a Friday game.

LF is the way to go. I've sat in the bleachers about 50 or so times I would say and have only been in RF once. Like it was said before, way way more tourists in RF. I guess because of Sosa still??
