Ronnie Belliard-2B- Nationals Feb. 18 - 12:16 pm et

Nationals signed second baseman Ronnie Belliard to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

It's ridiculous that some team didn't step up and make Belliard a better offer than this. He'll get $750,000 when he makes the Nationals. The club would likely win more games this year with Belliard at second and Felipe Lopez at short than with Cristian Guzmanin the starting lineup. However, since they're going to finish in last place anyway, it's likely that Guzman will have the job at the beginning of the year.

I think they already knew it. And why did I think Cleveland signed Belliard earlier in the off season?

I think the GM for the Tribe mentioned the possibility of signing him in an interview. I don't know his exact words but he said something like "He's definitely an option that we'll be looking at."

I knew he didn't sign with them, but I had figured he was going to sign with the Indians eventually basedo n that statement and the fact no one else seemed to be looking at him as an option

They traded for Josh Barfield.
