"I find it comical," Clemens said, according to a transcript on the KRIV TV Web site. "We get little notes at my foundation about people saying they wish I would make up (my) mind and decide because I am leaving people hanging. I'm not leaving anybody hanging. I don't want to play."

 

He then added this...

 

"I...told (my son Koby) 80-20 that I wasn't going to play," Clemens said. "The teams that are involved, I think they've got really good clubs that are together, and if somebody stubs their toe and my phone rings in May I might have to think about it."

Bottomline: It was a bad, and yet ego driven decision to come back with the Wizs a few yrs ago. That sucked. Not to mention he compounded the problem by trading away Rip Hamilton who I think is still a better baller then Agent 0)for fellow alum jerry Stackhouse, which didn't work out well.

I don't recall Jordan stringing the media along as to whether or not he was going to play the following season in consecutive off-seasons.

 

Jordan made up his mind as to what he was doing next year pretty quickly. It wasn't three or four farewell tours because he couldn't make up his mind or he enjoyed the attention. A comeback is one thing, but going through the same old non-retirement routine year after year gets a tad old.

10 Mil is still a lot. Most pitchers wouldn't get that. He is still getting paid to be basically a starter but not play the full year.
