From the Daily Southtown,

The $136 million question remains: What position will Soriano play?

Soriano, who in 2006 hit 46 homers and stole 41 bases for Washington, will bat leadoff and will get a shot at playing center field. He worked out at that spot Thursday. Last year, Soriano refused to switch from second base to the outfield and sat out a spring training game in protest.

When asked if he had a choice of what position he'd like to play, his answer was surprising to those who remember last year's controversy.

"Not second base anymore," Soriano said. "I think I had a very good season and enjoyed myself in the outfield. Last year, I didn't want to play outfield because I didn't believe in myself and what I could do. Now I believe in myself. It's an easier job for me to play in the outfield."

Translated: "Last year I thought I need to play second base to make the most money. Now I can play the OF and still make 136 million. Who needs second base?"

Yep, there's no longer a value to Soriano for having the ability to play 2nd.

His arm might be somewhat wasted at 2B anyway. It's been a good long while since I've seen a Cubbie rack up some serious outfield assists.

Fantasy baseball owners disagree with you

But it has been fun watching the outfield spikes from time to time

I was thinking the Cubs should make Soriano play SS. He seemed to excel last year when he was mad.

Wasn't he a shortstop (and not particularly good, defensively) in NYY farm system and moved to 2B because "Yankee god" Jeter was locked in at SS?

That's good, because he never could play 2nd base.

You would be correct.

That, and I always felt Soriano's athleticism was wasted on the INF.
