Seriously, just tell us the real reason.

On Comcast Sports Net they had an interview with one of the marketing guys, he said this revenue goes right back into payroll.

im shocked that they would say that

Why are you shocked? They said the same thing after announcing the bud light bleachers and backstop signage.

Although, I can't believe this will amount to any more than a fraction of a percent of our payroll.

i was being sarcastic. i agree with you completely, they always throw this out there, and it's always meaningless.

Meh. I'm against this, but at least it's just a simple logo. Anyone have any idea how much winning culture this would actually bring in though?

Yeah, while writing it, I realized you wrote it (and you are not dumb) so it was probably sarcasm. Still wanted to throw out the fraction of a percent of payroll thing. I'd love for some one to make this comment to the cubs PR guy...so if under armor is paying the cubs $1M thats about enough to pay for about 4 crappy starts by Marquis.

It's not the best thing ever, but hey if it brings on more money why not do it. I know it's the nostalgia and tradition, but so is losing and maybe this money will help end that tradition.

it's a good point. there's no way they're making a ton of money from this.

I could care less. Tear down the Ivy and put up billboards across the entire outfield if you want. What's the difference? Some of you act like this is still the Wrigley field of yore. It's no longer close. And more pieces are scheduled to be replaced in the coming years, too.

The Wrigley of our childhood is gone, people.

I hate marketing people. Just tell us how much money they paid you and spare us the brand synergy crap about "winning culture".

And BTW, just build a new park. Stop screwing up my cherished memories.

Oh God I laughed when I read your post! Marketing and real reasons together can not exist. Don't you love being treated like an idiot by these people?

I'm not happy with these things on the door but they could have put them somewhere worse I suppose. These guys are always looking for a way to generate cash and sadly Wrigley is one of the ways they can do it. I wish I could have gone to Wrigley before they put up the lights.

My biggest qualm about this decision is the fact that I feel like I've been duped. I was at Cubs Convention when they announced the home plate signage. They assured us that it would be tasteful, and that this is only one small change and that Wrigley would not be tarnished with ads like other ballparks. The last year, the same stuff about Bud Light Bleachers. Now this. They know they can't litter the park with ads all at once so they are slowly implementing them hoping that most fans don't notice the gradual change..

Seriously, who cares?

I don't get why people flip out or even care about stuff like this.

If it were up to me, they'd tear the place down and build a new retro park (with an ample supply of decent bathrooms) near the lake. Oh, and with no obstructed view seating. Plus, they wouldn't have the neighborhood (which, admittedly, is probably the best part of Wrigley) limiting their night games. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure Wrigleyville isn't a bigger factor in that whole Wrigley aura than the stadium itself.

I'm not nearly as big a Wrigley fan as I am a Cubs fan.

AGREED! I would not want it by the lake though. Summer is summer, but in April and May I could use a few extra degrees. I always thought a ballpark off I-90 right before the O'Hare turnoff. Then you are right on the Jefferson Park-O'Hare Train, near the tollway as well. And you would actually have room for parking. Make it happen Trib!

WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE!

Maybe this logo will motivate them to having a good home record. Lets get that school bus of kids to smash through the RF wall and then throw out the first pitch. Now all you naysayers would be on board to that.

Let's not get crazy.

So is this like the 10th time Wrigley has been "ruined?"

I haven't been ticked off before now at anything personally. The homeplate signage was inevitable. The Bud Light bleachers, eh. The computer scoreboards around the park, yes, please. But this is needless and stupid.

How is this anymore needless or stupid than anything else?

No only the 2nd or 3rd.

To me ruining is not an all or nothing thing.

I like baseball in the sunshine, I like seeing the brick behind home plate, and I like seeing the ivy and nothing else.

They lessen the experience by doing this type of thing.

Baseball stadiums should not be built near highways. We don't need to replicate crap places like Philly, Miami and Shea with nothing around the stadium. Any new stadium has to be located within walking distance of multiple postgame options.

I don't like the ads, but I see where they are coming from for doing it. It's not that big of deal, we just used to Wrigley being Wrigley without all the ads that other parks have.
