Umm

this picture is such an accurate metaphor for the usefulness of small-ball since the end of the dead-ball era.

Ya, but even this old geezer can bunt better than any Cub could last year.

Wood and Miller

That should probably be reversed to say "Miller and Wood" since Miller's on the left and Wood's on the right.

Once again the operator of the web site I got pictures from seems to have Miller and Wood backwards. Yesterday he had a picture of Miller, but the caption said Wood.

The Cardinals fan husband tells me that this is George Kissel, who a quick search reveals is 96 years old and has been with the Cards as a minor league coach and hitting instructor for 66 years. Evidently Branch Rickey brought him on board and he's been around ever since.

Kind of like the coaching version of Yosh. :)

Ah...see I didn't see the caption. I just rotated the computer around and said, "Hey, who is this guy?" and Cardinals fan husband filled me in. I'll have to update him.

I didn't even bother posting it. I saw old guy bunting in a Cards uni and had to post it.

For anyone bothered by slanted caps (they don't bother me), I couldn't resist this Vernon Wells shot. The caption says he was playing around.

George Kissell is a great man. I basically grew up hanging around the dugouts of the Cardinals AAA team. From when I was 6 to about 15 years old. It is amazing I didn't turn out a Cardinals fan.

Kissell would always remember my name, how he did that I hae no idea. He would throw me BP, work on my fielding, basically anything I wanted. And it was a thing where I didn't even have to ask, he would seek me out.

He is the definition of a "baseball man."

Picture Day!! One of my favorite days...who comes out with the goofiest looking head shot this year? Maddux is gone....I'm gonna go with....Blanco...followed by Ohman and Marshall.

Yeah you could say Jim needs to work on his shirt rotation a little more too. That shirt must be his ace.

You gotta remember that Hendry is living out of a hotel right now. He probably didn't pack his entire wardrobe for the trip. That's too much luggage.

I'll cut him slack there, but the terminator sunglasses need to go.
