I can't think of a more annoying trend than the "fireXXX" websites that sprout up the day after a new coach is hired.

Does someone still think this is funny or cute? It isn't.

I especially enjoy the Fire Jerry Angelo site.

Because its still up.

I've seen every Cub catcher since Rothschild has been around look to the dugout with regularity. And even beyond that, Rothschild is the one who develops the plan(albeit in conjunction with the players) for how they want to pitch each hitter. The ability to "call a game" is overblown.

Why? Have you ever done it?

I think it is careless to dismiss it as a minor issue.

The role of the catcher is very important to the whole process of pitching. They serve a larger purpose than just somebody to catch the ball.

Rothschild does not call the pitches.

Pre-game meetings and gameplans are important, but the P and C are pretty much on their own once the game begins.

I never said to dismiss it, but it's way over emphasized. I think it's even more careless to insinuate that the P and C are on an island during the game, especially if the tandem isn't having success.

How is it overemphasized? What is it less important than? What is it more important than?

Of course the pitchers aren't on an island out there. That wasn't my point. The pitching coach's primary job is to prepare them, either mechanically or through scouting reports leading up to their start or appearance. Yes, there is communication involved during a game as well.

But they do not call each and every pitch thrown, especially Rothschild. That is the job of the P and C, after the several informational meetings and scouting reports they have gone over with the pitching coach.

Was Damien Miller really that bad?

Nope.

Worse, actually.

Last April Miller made a play with the Brewers that still sticks in my mind. On a medium-depth flyball to left-center Miller tagged up at first base and advanced to second base standing up. That blew my mind. That was the moment when the full awfulness of Juan Pierre's throwing arm became clear to me.

It's little moments of horror like these that define our lives as Cub fans, unfortunately.

As far as performance versus what we gave up...nobody's mentioned Broglio yet?

Jeff Blowser. First year as a Cub he posted a .299 SLG %. .299 people. When your slugging is the same as combo meal from Wendy's you freaking SUCK.

My combo meal at Wendy's was $5.69 last night. I'd gladly take that from my SS :)

Oh come on. It's not like Lou Brock was THAT great

Hmmmm...in a way, you could argue for Brock himself somewhere on the list.

I think the C gets too much blame for poor pitch calling and the P doesn't get enough. Also if a pitch is poorly thrown, was it the wrong call or was thrown in the wrong spot?

The pitcher is well aware of what type of pitcher he is, he knows what he is more comfortable throwing in what spot moreso than any catcher would know, especially one that hasn't caught him much. The pitcher should be well aware of situational pitching and not rely on the C and pitching coach to force feed him knowledge anyone with a good work ethic should know.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I'm sick of hearing that Barrett doesn't call a good game.

And to echo what TT said, Cub catchers routinely look into the dugout for signs...not necessarily on every pitch, but it does happen often. On several occasions, I've seen Barrett glance over there prior to putting down a sign.

I didn't read this whole thread, but when I saw the title, one name came to mind: Kevin Orie.

Glad to see he got his props.

Gary Scott probably deserves to be on the list as well.

I am 100% unable to stop reading this website.

If coaches count in the worst 126 poll, Dusty would be a good pick for #1, just based off the recent anger he caused fans.

He never was much of a hitter, but obviously he can't be that bad since he has had a regular job in the majors for a long time.
