I was just looking at John Smoltz's baseball reference page and noticed that he might pass the 3000 K mark this year, and I took a look at a few other players to see how close they were to certain milestones. I thought it'd be cool to have a thread about what players are closing on on monumental numbers. Listed below are a handful of ones that I came across. Anyone know of any others? Feel free to add them.

-John Smoltz needs 222 K's to reach 3000 for his career.

-Ken Griffey, Jr. needs 37 HR's to reach 600 for his career.

-Manny Ramirez needs 30 HR's to reach 500 for his career.

-Alex Rodriguez needs 36 HR's to reach 500 for his career.

-Tom Glavine needs 10 wins to reach 300 for his career.

-Randy Johnson needs 20 wins to reach 300 for his career.

Julio Franco is only a year away from needing a 2nd baseball card for the spill over of his career stats.

From age 43 to 46, Julio most closely compared to Minnie Minoso. Gee, I wonder why?

Carlos Zambrano is 28 HRs shy of the all-time record for home runs by a pitcher.

There is no doubt in my mind that he will one day hold the record...

Where can I find "by position" stats?

I'm not sure, I found the pitcher's HR stats on Wikipedia somewhere...

what are the chances of him ending up with the Yankees or some other AL team if the Cubs can't extend him?

Haha, I agree.

I prefered his 05 over his 06 when he was just trying to put the bat on the ball rather than swinging out of his socks at every AB. THT has an interesting article on hitting pitchers up today.

Neifi Perez needs only 17 RBIs and 5 strikeouts to reach 500 in both categories.

And he only needs 273 more walks to make 500 in that category.

If there really is a God, he wont let this happen.

I am just 757 home runs from breaking Hank Aaron's HR record of 756.

I am also only 512 more wins away from Cy Young's record as well.

I am also not currently under contract. What are these teams waiting for?

Aramis Ramirez only needs 9 more stolen bases for 20 career SB's.

Isn't he slightly ahead of Greg Maddox?

Ramirez has 11, Maddux 9... but Maddux has only been caught 3 times, Ramirez has been caught 11.
