Is there even a sniff of this being reported? Or for now is this a pipe dream?

I drool at the thought of Ichiro being a Cub, his batting stance and style may drive Cub fans crazy, but his consistant performance and ability to roam the outfield would create much joy in Cubland!

The PTBNL could also be dependent upon seeing how some guys show up to spring training.

One that immediately leaps to mind is Pawelek - will he show up out of shape again?

It'd really torque me off if we gave up a legit front of the rotation starter type as a PTBNL.

If he shows up out of shape again, and his velocity continues to drop, it might be better to get rid of him before it's too late

His velo was back after he got in shape. Hopefully he learned his lesson. He says he did. We'll see.

This is too good to be true. Derrek Lee would be a top MVP nominee again and Aramis might top 140 RBIs.

I have no qualms giving up Jones, Gallagher and, say, Sean Marshall for a year of Ichiro and the draft picks. My gut tells me that would give the Cubs a better top of the order than the Yankees. I actually prefer our rotation too.

I prefer our bullpen also....well until the closer

It's still weird for me to imagine him overweight because if I remember right, he looked like one of those naturally really skinny kids in his high school pitching pictures.

Naturally the PTBNL would probably be a player that would be either Pie or E Patterson both who are in the minors. It probably would be following ST but could be Patterson.

As for the trade, it would be enormous.

This year it solve two enormous problems; RF defense, lead off hitting and game situational hitting/running.

It puts Soriano down to either #2 or probably #3 in the lineup where I would move Barrett & Murton(when he plays) up to #2 (like ChiSox did with Fisk) and have Ramirez or Lee be clean up whomever is hottest. Floyd could follow when he plays. In short I would play Barrett and Floyd and Murton and Blanco and then move DeRosa to #7 and Izturis to 8 permanently.

I'm hearing that Hendry is trying to swing a deal -

Jaques Jones, Gallagher & a ptbnl to Seattle for Ichiro Suzuki....

Unconfirmed on the players, but from what I am told, they are in talks for Suzuki....

You don't have to worry about any of this. There is no such deal being discussed.

Boo. Thanks, Bruce. Looking like we are set with Jacque then?

For the foreseeable future anyway.

ready for AZ, Bruce? I'm pretty jealous, not even about the being paid to watch baseball part, but the getting out of this weather part of it.

I'm more than ready. I leave Feb. 13. "This weather," as you put it, has a lot to do with my feeling these days!

If possible, could you define forseeable future?

How do you know that for sure? No offense, but I doubt Hendry tells reporters all the deals that he's discussing.

Probably, but I think that if one of a random person on a message board and a Cubs beat reporter were to know about a deal being discussed, it would be the beat reporter.

OK. Believe what you will. I think my track record holds up pretty well.

Not possible. I'd say Jacque is here at least through spring training if not longer.

Bruce,

How do you envision the rotation and bullpen shaking out?

You must remember that health will be the overriding factor. I see the rotation, as of Feb. 2, as:

Zambrano

Lilly

Hill

Marquis

Prior/Miller or Miller/Prior

Bullpen:

Eyre

Ohman

Cotts

Howry

Wood (if healthy)

Dempster

Battle among Wuertz, Novoa and somebody I'm surely forgetting

Darn, Ichiro would go a long way to solving the team's OBP woes. I suspect if the team stays as it is now, we'll end up leading baseball in solo HR.

if Prior wins the last spot what will the Cubs do with Miller?

If Miller wins the last spot does Prior go to AAA?

If Miller wins the last spot, it probably means Prior is on the DL. If Prior wins the last spot, it means Miller is on the DL, somebody else is on the DL or the Cubs don't see enough from Miller to keep him. We're a long, long way from these things sorting themselves out.

Thanks as always.

The Cubs are giving a lot of tough love to Prior. I don't mind it so much, but the bloom is clearly off the rose.
