We're looking at last year's rotation, with Lilly replacing Maddux and Marquis filling in for Marshall. I don't see any improvement if this happens.

Because Hendry's job is on the line and he wants a veteran in there. What is scary is where they go if Meche is out of the picture. I'd really hate to see them waste money on Weaver or Marquis because they didn't get Meche.

I'm not saying that it's the world's best signing, but if Rothchild was able to turn it around for Marquis, wouldn't it be worth a shot?

A lot depends on the type of contract he gets. If he gets a low-cost one-year deal with an option for a second year, I don't mind it...especially if the reports are true that he's worked out some mechanical issues this offseason.

 

A cheap deal for Marquis is a hell of a lot better than $11 mil per year for four years for Meche.

I'm in agreement here. If Marquis signs a deal for, say, $3M for one year, then I'm okay with this. I strongly believe one of the kids (Guzman is my pick) is going to break out this year. Having a disposable veteran in the rotation that can be pushed out of the way allows one of the kids to step up and grab a spot. If the entire rotation is filled with guys on 4 yr, $40M contracts, you might as well trade all the young pitchers.

I would much rather have Suppan or even Batista than Marquis. I don't see deals for Lieber or Penny going down either. Teams want way to much for SP right now.
