Question for those in favor of keeping Pagan: why do you want him?

He hit below replacement level last year and is projected to put up an OPS under .700 by ZIPS. He didn't hit righties all that well, but he was horrible against lefties. He should probably quit batting right-handed.

Does he have some value that I'm missing?

He keeps players like Fast Freddie Bynum off the roster.

Except Bynum had a good 63 points of OPS on Pagan. Heck, Juan Pierre had a higher OPS than Pagan.

I disliked Bynum as much as the next guy, but I don't understand why we give Pagan an easier time. Is it his cool name?

Rotoworld:

Freddie Bynum-OF-Orioles Dec. 6 - 9:39 pm et

Orioles acquired infielder-outfielder Freddie Bynum from the Cubs for a player to be named.

The Cubs are expected to get a pitcher not on Baltimore's 40-man roster. Bynum hit .257/.308/.456 in 136 at-bats for the Cubs as a rookie, which was a pretty surprising line given that he had a slugging percentage of .363 in more than 2,500 at-bats as a minor leaguer. He can play second base as well as all three outfield spots, making him a decent 25th man. It's just that David Newhan and Brandon Fahey are also 25th men. If the Orioles try carrying all three, they'll have a versatile bench that's very weak offensively. Perhaps they'll send Fahey to Triple-A and pick up someone with a little more punch.

I would have answered the question the same way if we dealt Pagan over Bynum.

Pagan can at least field pretty well... Bynum is a utility guy who sucks at fielding.

Both were wastes of roster spots last year. If Pagan's not on the team in April, I'll be happy.

What an offseason this has been!

Even though the season was awful, I started to feel good about the prospects for a fun offseason the second I heard Neifi was traded.

I'll never forget that rainy night at Wrigley in September when he managed to make 4 errors in 3 innings. The 9 of us in the bleachers were pissed.

Hey!!!! I was one of those 9. I had a bag on my head.

Was that the one where he dropped the easiest fly ball? Ones that Little Leaguers have no problem catching? I really wonder what his fantasy rank will be.

He dropped lots of things in that game, but yes I'm pretty sure a lazy fly ball was one of them. Jacque Jones was out in RF laughing at Bynum being heckled. Then Jones did something stupid and got taunted. He didn't think it was as funny.

Now I'm really glad I missed all of the summer because I was on vacation from June 10 the August 9th.. when was this? Painful to watch, I'm sure.

This was late, possibly in September. Was actually a fun game, Cubs were down big (8-0 maybe?) and came back to win it in extra innings. There were like 500 people left at the game when it ended.

Oh and the best part is Bynum shoulda been charged with another error, but it was on a DP so they couldn't.

that's the bobble I remember. two throwing error?

Looking it up on cubs.com he had 3 errors on the game. Going through the gameday log, it looks like there were 2 he should've had additional errors on. The afformentiond DP chance, and there was one ruled as a single to 2B Freddy Bynum. Cubs made 6 errors in the game including Lee Bucknering a ball in the 9th. Dempster blew the lead without allowing a hit, hitting a batter, or walking a batter.

Did Bynum remind anyone else of a black version of Hans from "The 'Burbs"?
