The White Sox play-by-play voice was announced Tuesday as one of the 10 finalists for the Ford C. Frick Award, given annually by the Hall of Fame to an announcer. It is a first for Harrelson, thanks to the fans.

This HAS to be an award for longevity, NOT talent!

Please change the title of this thread.

There is only 1 "Hawk" in Chicago, and he doesnt announce for the Black Sox.

I agree. I clicked on this thread because I was thinking it had something to do with my favorite player of all time.

Harrelson is the worst announcer that I've ever heard. I just hate his "duck snort", "he gone", "put it on the board...yes", ""grab some bench", "Paulie, Scotty, etc." .

Hawk Harrelson is a bum. The man is a disgrace to the city of chicago.

Because he is a bad play-by-play guy?

Perspective?

Let's just say that....out of all the announcers who are homers towards the home team (like Scully, Santo, S. Caray) Hawk Harrelsonis definately the worst, and he doesn't even try and hide it. If you listen to a White Sox game (trust me the headache of hearing Hawk Harrelson voice will go away after a good night of drinking) there are several times during a game (not just once, but several times, mind you) that there will be "silence" in the booth between Hawk and DJ. And during this silence, as a viewer, you just get this awkward feeling. Hawk doesn't know how to call a game, or even carry a conversation during the game. And the fact that the White Sox haven't fired his sorry excuse of an broadcaster, is beyond mindboggling.

As annoying as the White Sox announcers are when they are winning, they are just as hilarious when they are losing. You can tell that they are just extremely depressed.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Hawk: And that's a ball.

*silence*

Hawk: Strike. 1-1

DJ: That was a good pitch.

*silence*

Hawk: Flyball to left. Caught by Podsednik. 2 down.

*silence*

I sat through these games, so I know how absolutely loathable that douche is:

I wish I could say "He gone" when talking about Harrelson.

I thought it was "He GAWN"... but give it a few years.

I know this is NSBB, and not SSBB, but is nobody going to defend Hawkie.

Somebody must like him. Anybody?

*crickets*

I always have, I'm less tolerable of him when they get the games vs. the Cubs at the Cell, but he tells better stories and gets more in-depth about game situations than most.

He'll tell you more about a the finer details of the game which I believe has a greater appreciation for the intelligence of the fan rather than assuming the person listening struggles to grasp the simplest concepts. which is what I appreciate. Yes, his sayings are annoying.
