I just heard another blurb that Cincinnati is more than willing to move Dunn. They need/want more young pitching. Hendry seems committed to going with veteran starters over young pitchers, at least for 4 of his 5 slots. And we have a LOT of young pitchers.

I acknowledge there are (very) significant holes in Dunn's game, but what assets he has, are tremendous. He is the LH hitting power bat for corner OF that the Cubs apparently want very badly. He is a significantly better hitter than Jock Jones, despite the high K-rate and low BA. Dunn would allow the Cubs to move Murton to RF and most importantly (IMO), put Soriano in CF where he has max value. Then, you could sign Cliff Floyd as your 4th OF and occasional platoon partner for Murton in RF, and the offense looks pretty good.

Sean Marshall, Will Ohman and Scott Moore for Adam Dunn. Discuss.

If I'm Krivsky, why would I trade him to a team in my own division?

His strengths and more importantly his weaknesses probably don't fit well into Hendry's philosophy especially at whatever cost it would be to acquire him and then try and lock him long-term.

They'd probalby want Pie + a young starter like Hill. I wouldn't do it.

But if they wanted Pie + Marshall and some other quality arm from the farm I would do it. If the Cubs could talk them into taking Dempster or Ohman that would be better than one of the farm hands.

I'd put Murton in RF

Why not Adam Dunn? Because he's a terrible baseball player? I really have no idea why his name is continually brought up.

We really need a sticky thread with all the reason why Dunn is a good player so we don't have to have these converstations periodically.

God, Dunn would look great batting in the #2 slot.

Soriano

Dunn

DLee

ARam

Barrett

Sorry, my two slot is reserved for Lugo. Dunn bats 5th.

Well then where are you putting ARod or Tejada?

No thanks. His numbers post-ASB were horrible. His defense is pathetic. It's either a walk or a HR from the big man. There isn't much to his game. Let someone else overpay.

He does K once in a long while, too. :D

You're right of course. Why anyone would want a LH hitting guy who just turned 27 years old within the past month, with a lifetime 900 OPS, 380 OBP, and already 198 career HRs is beyond me. The guy is a slug.

Dunn's numbers were awful last year. I wouldn't do Pie straight up for him.

If an 855 OPS and 99 runs scored qualifies as awful in your book, then sign me up for a team of awful players, please. You do know how many runs scored our LEADOFF man had in 2006, right?

Nothing wrong with a good TTO player, just so long as the HR/PA and BB/PA ratios are acceptible... which Dunn's certainly are.

I'd love to get Dunn, but we'd have to either play him ahead of Murton or play Murton in RF and Soriano in CF to fit him.

I'm not opposed to getting him and letting Murton be the fourth OF.

If the Cubs are set on trading Jones, maybe Krivsky likes Jones from his Minnesota days.

How about Jones, Dempster, and Marshall for Dunn. I'd even be willing to kick in a Ryan Harvey or Dopirak to get it done.

Jacque Jones out slugged him and put up a 833 OPS. And who cares how many runs he scored?

Yeah, like once a game.
