Tim Kurkjian talks about teams that could be trading at the meetings.

"They have seven major league starting pitchers: Derek Lowe, Brad Penny, Hong-Chih Kuo, Randy Wolf, Brett Tomko, Chad Billingsley and Mark Hendrickson. One of them could be used as part of a deal"

Maybe Hendry could work out something to bring one of these guys here. I think Penny could be had for a decent offer. He has fallen out of favor in LA and has been good over his career with a 4.02 career ERA. Thats the guy I would like to see Hendry go for. Tomko and Hendrickson stink. Billinglsey, Kuo, and Lowe are good and I don't think the Dodgers would want to trade them. Would you guys like to see any of these guys in Cubbie blue?

Penny would be a nice addition if we miss out on Schmidt.

Zambrano

Penny

Hill

Lilly

Prior/Miller

That can be a solid rotation.

Tomko? Kuo? Hendrickson? Seems like all of those guys are stretches to be "Major League Pitchers" at this point. I think Billingsley is due for a major regression next year too. Something about his 1.5+ WHIP is unsettling...

I think Billingsley is due to get better. He was a 22 year old with awesome stuff first breaking into the bigs. He has always allowed a small number of hits per 9 in the minors and his control should improve with experience.

Kuo is a stretch to be an major league pitcher? I disagree.

Billingsley is bound to improve given his immense talent and the fact that last season was his rookie campaign.

I was about to say, I must be missing something with Kuo. His FB is one of the best from any LH'ed starter in baseball. If you want to bring up injuries, I'll agree that his botched TJS is a concern, but he has been healthy the last 2 seasons.

Since being signed out of the Pacific Rim, his major and minor league numbers are impressive.

He's still very raw and will struggle with control, but if he's avail., teams should go after him. If he would be in the Cubs rotation, it would be a good thing.

It's an interesting comparison if you put his numbers against Hill's. Based on 214.2 IP (same as Kuo)

Hill has avg'd 166H 21HR 99BB 275K

Kuo has a better FB, not as good of a breaking pitch, but a better change.

Penny and Lowe aren't going anywhere, gimme a break. Wolf was just signed, Billingsley is unproved, and the others are stiffs.

Coletti just got done signing Juan Pierre to a 5 year, 44 million dollar deal.

I like Kuo, but counting on him next year wouldn't be the greatest idea.

Same for Billingsley. He's bound to improve...but it would take a pretty large improvement for him to get to a point where his 3.80 ERA wasn't a complete fluke.

The point is that I wouldn't bank on those guys being solid major leaguers next year, and I wouldn't deal either of Lowe or Penny at this point.

And that's why you'll see Manny Ramirez in Dodger Blue in 2007.
