I found this little nugget at the bottom of a Rosenthal collumn.

The A's, mindful of the demand for young, affordable talent, have kicked around the idea of trading one of their players with between zero and three years of service time for a bounty of even younger prospects.

A pitcher such as right-hander Joe Blanton, for example, would be tempting to another club — he won 16 games last season, albeit with a 4.82 ERA, and is still a year away from salary arbitration.

In return, the A's would seek players who still could be with the club when their new ballpark in Fremont, Calif. opens in 2011 or '12.

It's unlikely the A's will execute such a plan, but given the relatively mediocre state of the AL West, they probably could pull it off and still compete for the division title next season.

Blanton could be an interesting option for the rotation.

What do you think?

Who in our system would even remotely interest Beane?

If the gist of the comment is true, and I have my doubts, Beane would be looking for young prospects to have available in 2011-2012.

He may be interested in players like Veal and Paweleck among others. I think the idea is farfetched, but it warranted discussion.

Beane probably looks at our farm system and laughs.

I actually heard that he uses our farm system scouting reports as toilet paper. And in retrospect, Hendry attempts to use Beane's farm ystem scouting reports as currency at the local meat market.

But in all seriousness we'd probably have to part with at least one of the crown jewels of our farm system to get Blanton. Except our crown jewels arem ore like those cheap rings you can get in a cracker jack box... like the Schwartz

Murton most likely, who I would not want to part with. Beane probably looks at our farm system and laughs.

If you're talking about hitting prospects sure. The Cubs don't have much worth parting with. But Beane or any GM would value some of the Cubs younger, long-range pitching prospects.

Why would Beane laugh at the best young arms lower in the farm?

Well, guess I should have mentioned the Veals, Gallaghers, and Pawaleks of our system. I was just making a point that we don't a strong one. Hopefully, Wilken can change that soon.

Beane and Hendry have dealt with each other in the past. They are actually a good matchup due to their completely different valuation of players.

If I love apples, and you love oranges, odds are we can make a trade. As much as these guys have "their way" they are still going to have some guys in their systems who aren't like the others.

He shouldn't be laughing. His isn't very good either

He keeps churning out players that win 90+ and divisions. Something has to be working in that system.

Exactly, he doesn't have an overload of crown jewels in his farm system, but he doesn't have a surplus of useless future journeymen like we do. Their system produces solid average to above average every day players who can get the job done and do their part to putting a winner on the field. Rather than churn out one or two gems every other year to rely on and try and get by with some scraps left over, he's got a system full of players that can fill any role that may need to be filled once their current players leave for the FA market, and they'll fill it adequately, and waaaaay cheaper.

Blanton? :?

no thanks.

Are you kidding? Why not?

how about an ops against of over .800 last year in a park that favors pitcher. He could be good like he was in 2005 but I don't want to give up the prospects it would take (veal pawelek and gallagher have all been mentioned in the thread I believe) when there is a chance we could be getting the guy that showed up in 2006.
