Ooooh, some *very* interesting little tid-bits in that one.

"He likes to hit," O'Brien said. "Jim Hendry was saying, 'Tell Ted, we're still not finished. We're going to go out and get a good left-handed bat.' And Ted said, 'Why? You've got me.' He likes to think he can hit."

Among other things. Ted Lilly thinks he wants to reverse the curse, huh?

I think he's waiting for that Yankees offer, because after all, NY would be a preferrable destination to Chicago unless the money is more here.

Watch out all you Dunn fans. Maybe he is the guy Hendry wants

Didn't that happen last season and it was nothing? Still interesting to wonder.

Doubt it, will either be Floyd or Lofton...

I think that is pretty standard for the winter meetings week.

I dunno that Lofton really would qualify in that context, but Floyd might. Besides Dunn, Lofton, and Floyd, what other lefthanders with pop am I missing?

What do they discuss on the slow news days like the past few? Hendry is probably going to be tight-lipped too.

Huff

Hendry must be sour on him as that name hasn't even come up all winter

Maybe Huff doesn't get along with Lou. I'm not sure.

Barry Bonds has reportedly left the hotel where the winter meetings are being held, but not before two baseball men told ESPN's Jayson Stark that they were told by Bonds' agents that there would be an announcement of where Bonds would play next year by Wednesday night.

Grain of salt. It's unclear whether Bonds has legitimate interest from any team other than the Giants, though agent Jeff Borris said he was in Orlando to meet with at least two other teams. According to Stark, one baseball man who spoke with the Giants' brass said the Giants considered Bonds' arrival to be nothing more than particularly inspired "gamesmanship."

Interesting...

Im starting to have serious doubts that Lilly signs with the Cubs.... it seems that the yankees are doing what the dodgers did last year for Furcal. There remaining darkhorses until boom they come with big cash, and it seems to me that Lilly does not want to pitch for the Cubs as much as he wants to pitch for the Yankees.

Seems the Yankees are just trying to get Petitte to hurry up.

I don't know about where he wants to play. But the Cubs.com article had this quip:

"He likes to hit," O'Brien said. "Jim Hendry was saying, 'Tell Ted, we're still not finished. We're going to go out and get a good left-handed bat.' And Ted said, 'Why? You've got me.' He likes to think he can hit."

I'm not sure a guy talks like that, "You've got me" if he's not really wanting to pitch there. Maybe that's a stretch, but I think the Cubs might be offering the most money/years, and he likes that. NY has been offering guys 1 or 2 years so far.

well if they want to overpay for him, just like the dodgers did for furcal, then they can go right ahead

Yesterday on ESPNews, Tim Kurkjian didn't think there was any possibility that Bonds would play somewhere other than SF.

I think the Yanks are just trying to run up the price on the Cubs until they can move in on Pettite. They're also probably staying in the Lilly sweepstakes if Pettite spurns them, so I would not rule that out.

I don't think there is either. But the cosmos has been messing with my brain lately.
