ESPN[/url]"] Albert Pujols thinks he was snubbed.

The St. Louis Cardinals' slugger is upset he lost out to Philadelphia's Ryan Howard for the National League MVP award, saying Wednesday the honor should go to someone on a playoff team.

"I see it this way: Someone who doesn't take his team to the playoffs doesn't deserve to win the MVP," Pujols said in Spanish at a news conference organized by the Dominican Republic's sports ministry.

I was tempted to type "WAAAAAAAH!" in the quote above ...

Thats like sayin, for the hell of it, Jason Bay somehow was batting .350 hit 60 HR's 160 RBI's He dosent deserve to get MVP just because He plays for the crappy Pirates but Albert could bat .300 53 HR's and 145 RBI's. but mr pujols should get it because the Cards make the playoffs.. Come on Albert,Cry me a freakin river.

Keep whining Albert! :P

my favorite part of this was

"I thought we were going to sign Soriano, but it wasn't possible. We also intended to trade for him during the season, but the Nationals wanted too much for him," Pujols said.

really??

Albert is slowly making an attempt at being the Sammy Sosa of St Louis.

and i think he will...

becoming a Sammy Sosa in any city requires a critical sports media. in other words, not going to happen, unless management itself turns on the player and drives him out of town (ie. Templeton, Lankford, and Drew).

Or perhaps acts in a way that hurts his team while in the midst of a not so graceful decline from glory.

Either way, I agree with wolf. He used to not care about such awards, he was all about "winnang the World Series, mang".

This is a load of crap. The Phillies won more games in a better division than the Cardinals did with a GM actively trying to destroy the team at the trade deadline.

Pujols deserved it, but he deserved it for his STATISTICAL advantage, not for anything the Cardinals did.

What Pujols "has forgotten" is that after the Phillies traded Abreu (and at the time conceding about not making the playoffs) Ryan Howard just about single handlely forced the Phillies into the playoffs.

Pujols is moron, and needs to shut up.

I'm not going to defend what he said too much, but who knows the exact context and question...if the question was do you think the mvp should be from a playoff team? then his answer doesn't seem that bad...

Remember that in the past people with lesser stats have won the award because the media has said it should go to a player on a playoff team. There should be some consistentcy in what the criteria is. 2003 Albert was robbed by Bonds and the biggest reason given was the Giants made the playoffs...same reason given in 98 with Sosa...This isn't the first year he should have won and didn't but at the same time he should know not to say this because it does look bad as a one liner. His attitude toward the media took a major turn when articles started coming out about his high HR rate and questions of illegal activity earlier this year. The players are human and that kind of crap would get old...

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on it.

The BBW go back and forth almost every year on this. One year they name a winner because he lead his team to the playoffs. The next it seems based on stats alone. This year Howard and Pujols were so close that I thought it should have gone to the player whose team made the playoffs.

Pujols has the right to express his thoughts on the MVP. He's won an MVP and he's the best player in baseball. In my book that makes him a qualified person to talk about it.

I'm happy for Howard because he had a great year and seems to be a good guy. I think both of these guys could share the award for the next few years.

When it comes to dealing with the national media (i.e., voters), the surly Prince Albert is his own worst enemy. I'm sure after Pujols latest self-centered comments, the writers who voted for the media savvy Ryan Howard are feeling even better about their votes.
