KRIV-TV in Houston is reporting that Carlos Lee and the Astros have agreed to terms on a six-year contract.

No word yet on the terms of the deal, but $90 million is as good a guess as any. If the report is true, Lee picked the Astros over the Orioles, Phillies and Giants. Since he has a ranch near Houston, the Astros were the favorites right from the start.

He beats us up, but I would rather have him there at that price than a lot of other guys. If the Astros add Lee, but lose Clemens, they will be worse in 07 than 06.

He hits the Cubs well (who doesn't?) and he'll like playing his home games at the Juice Box, but after about 3-4 years, that contract isn't going to be pleasant. And he'll need to be DHing by then.

Same could be said for Soriano?

i really have no qualms about the cubs spending money. its not my money. i just couldnt go into yet another season with absolutely no hope. now there is atleast some hope that if lee, ramirez, and soriano are healthy we'll be decent. another 66-win season and nobody in this world could talk me off the ledge.

I agree...Atleast we know there is no way in hell we can be as bad as last season...Im a surprised with all Hendry has done so far, and its only a day after thanksgiving..There will be plenty more to come, especially around the winter meetings...Only if Jason Schmidt accepts the 3 year/45 mil contract Hendry offered him...Id prolly cry then I dont know what..

Never say never. This is the Cubs, after all, a team that has made losing their forte. This team has found ways to lose games and piss away seasons like no other team in the history of American baseball.

That being said, however, I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm glad we signed Soriano (though the jury is still out on that contract), and I'm glad we have a hard-nosed, no-nonsense manager in Piniella that we've needed so desperately for years now.

as for lee's contract: 4 year no trade clause per espn radio(xm). so he'll not be a DH for awhile anyway.

as for the cubs: we need a couple pitchers, and i'm set for opening day!

Yeah, but if Lee deal keep the Stros from picking up even remotely SOLID pitching, then it's a good deal for the Cubs and the Cards.

Astros with Lee and no Clemens/Petitte is worse then an Astros with Clemens/Petitte and no Lee.
