Do you know whats hilarious?

JD Drew would have been a MONSTER bargain if someone had gotten him to sign for 4/52. He's easily the best overall FA when it comes to actual performance.

Anyway...busts include Barry Zito, GMJ, Soriano, and Pierre to me. Whoever gets Zito and expects anything more than an innings eater at this point is going to be dissapointed. GMJ and Soriano are working off of career years. Pierre just sucks.

What a disgusting offseason. So much money spent on mediocrity. Are GMs really this stupid?

More like desperate.

What about Carlos Lee? If he gets a contract that is proportionally better than Pierre's and GMJ's, he could potentially be an enormous bust.

To be fair....everybody knows Soriano will not hold even a JD Drew esque type OBP, BUT....

He' been a very solid offensive player (excluding that pesty OBP). Grant you, his current #'s don't "deserve" $18 mill, but considering what Pierre and GMJ got, I am more then satisfied (at least for now) with Soriano's contract. And I think offensive, Wrigley will help him continue those offensive upswing for at least 3 yrs.

So, do I see Soriano as a monumental bust that Carlos Beltran was in his first season in NY, no. But will he be a bust...not a colossial bust.

Of the players that have signed already, my first instinct says GMJ or Pierre. Potential pitching busts, as has been stated, depends on where the FA pitchers sign.

The biggest bust - Fonzi Soriano. I predict a slow start and the boos to follow. He and we will have to withstand the pressure for 8 LONG years. He'll realize the pressure that comes along with the albatross contract and want out in 3 years, guaranteed.

GMJ to follow as the next biggest bust.

Gary Matthews Jr. in a normal year still beats Pierre. I don't think there's any chance of the Pierre coming even close to paying off in the first year, let alone for the remainder of the contract. At least Gary Matthews Jr. was good last year.

i'm willing to endure a down year from Soriano in 2007. Look at how bad Beltran was in his first year for the Mets

Soriano will be 31 this season. A down year at 31 at the beginning of a long contract usually isn't a good sign.

I think don't think Lee will be that big of a bust. I wanted nothing to do with him earlier in the offseason, but he should at least be decent despite being overpaid.

One positive about Matthews Jr. is that he'd at least be useful as a 4th outfielder is he doesn't do well. Pierre, not so much.

Beltran was also injured for most of last year. he tried to play through it but couldn't.

Beltran was healthy this year.

My guess is Soriano. It seems to me that a lot of people have unrealistic expectations about what the Cubs will do offensively next year. If they don't score runs and Soriano regresses to career norms it could get hot.

Jason Schmidt. He has been losing velocity for several years and he will be leaving one of the best pitching parks in baseball.

The numbers don't really bear out SF being a big pitcher's park. Plus, Schmidt doesn't have a lot of variation from home to away.
