Jason Schmidt has one of the largest strides for a pitcher.

His shoulders are perfectly squared up to the plate.

Len told me that we're signing Schmidt. I'll have him send everyone a postcard later.

Yes! I've been here long enough to get that!!

Cookie anyone?

Are there any rumors about what Hendry is working on right now? Hopefully he can make another big transaction before the winter meetings.

A tuna/bacon thing on Rye.

Schmidt is going to get a huge contract from some team.

It isn't worth a new thread, so I'll post it here. What trade targets are Hendry looking at? (besides possibly Westbrook?)

I doubt anyone knows for sure right now.

I'd guess Schmidt, Meche, Wolf

I'm sure Hendry would like to trade for Aaron Heilman.

anybody else think that maybe, just maybe hendry has the intent of going into spring training with cotts in mind as a starter and is not planning on trading either of eyre or ohman?

I'm praying that's not the case...

With the kind of value relievers have in this market, coupled with the fact Eyre has posted good numbers while pitching horribly... Eyre will never have a higher value than he has right now. He could actually help fetch something useful.

Those are FA's...

Whoops. Thats what I get for skimming.

Is there life?

The Cubs have reportedly talked with Jason Schmidt's agent more than once since the right-hander became a free agent.

The Mariners remain the favorites to sign Schmidt, whose market has been slow to develop so far. The rumors regarding him and Barry Zito may begin to run fast and furious at the winter meetings next week.

God, I want Schmidt.

If not Schmidt, I'd take Zito if we can get him for 5 years or less.

If neither of them, I'd stop shopping for pitchers on the FA market.

reading the actual linked article on rotoworld i'm not as pleased. hendry seems very, maybe too, cautious about going after a big name and may settle for a couple middle of the road starters.

Right after the Soriano signing, I got the impression Hendry went out and got him so early in the offseason in order to attract higher tier free agents like Schmidt.

I wonder if Hendry is going to try and pull off a trade for Dontrelle Willis. That would be nice.

Concerning Zito, is he a flyball pitcher? What is the reason (besides the incredible rumor of what he is asking) Schmidt is so preferred over Zito? Zito's numbers look a bit better to me.

Zito is an extreme fly ball pitcher who has gotten a lot of help from the spacious Oakland Coliseum and it's huge foul territory. Plus, he's pitched a ton of innings and with all those curveballs just seems ripe for injury to me, but that's just my opinion.

Can you imagine Zito when the wind is blowing out at Wrigley...

Ugly, ugly stuff.

KCtigers, what were Schmidts GB, LD, and FB percentages the last year if you don't mind looking it up for us...

Career-wise though Zito's (and Lilly's too) GB, LD, and FB percentages are very comparable to Schmidt. Why does everyone want to bring in Schmidt over Zito?

Schmidt's GB, LD, and FB percentages from 2002-06 are:

GB - 38.6

LD - 20.2

FB - 41.3

Zito's from 02-06 are:

GB - 38.0

LD - 19.0

FB - 43.0

Lilly's from 02-06 are:

GB - 35.4

LD - 21.5

FB - 43.1

So why are people so anti-Zito here? Besides the risk of an arm injury, which is possible for any pitcher, I don't really get it.
