I have no clue why an NL team would spend $8M on this guy. He's almost certain to miss at least 50 games and his defense is awful.

Missing games? Who are we talking about, Alou or Drew?

Would you like Drew if he stopped walking?

I'd like Drew with he played more games. He's as soft as Charmin. Here's a guy who just doesn't fully use his talent.

So let me get this straight. You like Alou and wish he were still on the team even though he misses games. But you don't like Drew because he misses games...

Be honest, why don't you want Drew?

Freaking Alou. It was his incredible overreaction to Bartman that set the tone of the club and doomed us in '03. I'll go to my grave believing that.

If he just walks away instead of throwing a fit, we're talking about the Cubs getting back to the World Series right now.

I still maintain that Dusty's complete and total lack of accountability led to that. It was NEVER this team's fault when something went wrong! It was always something else, be it the fans, the announcers, or the grass.

At the time, Dusty was the man of "Dustiny" so I didn't focus on him but you're right, he showed that he had no interest in trying to run a reasonable ship.

Alou though, criminey. At what point do you grow up and act like a man? 60? 70? It sure as heck wasn't his mid-30's. Most of us quit crying about every little problem after we get our first jobs in our early 20's.

You know, don't bother learning to run the bases or anything like any little-leaguer would. But whine and cry when a fan tries to grab a foul ball. It's all OK though----Alou got his WS with the Marlins, no need to deliver for Chicago.

God, I still have such angst for that guy in case you can't tell.

Article up on espn.com saying it's probably gonna be a 2 year deal at $8 mil annually.

I mean he's still .301/.352./.571 with 22 HRs in 98 ballgames.

I sort of understand, but I think the market is getting suddenly more expensive than I expected it to.

As much as i hate Alou (and i really really really do), that honor belongs to Bernie Mac for angering the Baseball Gods with his rendition of Take Me Out to the Ballgame in the 7th inning.

The very last place on Earth that needed to be done because of the Ruthian Curse that was still alive and well from the 1932 Series.

One of these days i will get even, even if it is the last thing i do.

Can we acknowledge that the disdain Cubs fans feel for Alou is the same disdain Cards fans feel for Drew? While each fall outside the realm of saber, there are valid reasons for not wanting these players on your team.

Many people's hatred towards Alou is irrational, just like some Cards/Dodgers fans towards Drew. That said, I think Alou's baserunning adventures and old fogeyness are a little more tangible than Drew "not looking like he cares".

Nah, it' more like I sit out of games with a stomach ailment or a hangnail. That's pretty tangible.

I feel no disdain for Alou.

This just in, Alou grounds out to third base. Film at 11.

Check swing ground out

Oh I do miss those.

Despite all of the things that may have been aggravating about Alou, he still would have been more productive than any of the guys we had roaming the OF the past two years.

That's not very difficult to do, but you're right. I don't want Alou back though, and not b/c he is old. I got sick of his baserunning gaffes and bonehead LF play, though the man still can turn on a fastball like nobody's business.

If were gonna talk about wouldashouldacouldas then we would be talking about the Cubs repeating as world champs right now (our starting pitching then would've eaten up the yanks just like the Fish's did).

According to The Associated Press, Moises Alou will get a one-year deal worth $8 million-$9 million from the Mets.

An option for 2008 will be included. It's unclear whether that option would vest if Alou received a certain number of plate appearances next season.
