During the Grizzlies-Kings game last night on ESPN, Jim Gray reported that it was the Grizzlies owner's dream to buy the Cubs.

Take it for what it's worth...

It's also my dream to buy the Cubs, for what it's worth.

How about a NSBB pool to buy the Cubs? I"m in.

Don Levin, owner of the Chicago Wolves minor league hockey team, also said this week he'd contacted Tribune to express interest in buying the Cubs.

Levin, whose DRL Enterprises operates a variety of businesses ranging from loose tobacco and rolling papers to medical equipment and machinery leasing, said he would be able to finance such a transaction on his own.

"To own the Cubs would be a spectacular thing," the 59-year-old lifelong Chicagoan said in an interview. "It would be a great thing."

What does everyone think of this? Levin certainly did well with the Wolves----they are something of a phenomenon in the hockey world.

This sounds interesting.

RIGHT, 'cus NSBB'ers are definately of one mind about how to make the team better.

We would have another Atlanta Hawks ownership group situation where some of the owners want to make a move, and others don't-which forces the courts to freeze our free agent signings effectively keeping the team from getting better. I'm sure we all live for that type of situation.

I got $5 I can pony up right now.

If I liquidate all my assets, I can come up with another fiver.

That should pay for one minute of DLee's contract.

Your money is going into Izturis' contract. Thanks a LOT.

By my calculations, DLee makes about $80,000 per game. Figure about three hours a game... he's making near $450 per minute. Sorry, but you're coming up a little short.

That's the first thing that came to mind when I read an article about this in the Trib. In my opinion, a group of investors is just a watered down version of Tribune Co.

Don Levin is a much better option. And he says he doesn't have to line up investors. He already has the dough.

I would like to make $450 a minute. You know what? I'd even settle for $10 a minute, nice guy that I am, so Master Shake, you can pay one minute of my contract.

I think we all agree--or at least, most of us agree--that OBP is very important!

I'll pitch in $20 if I get to pee on Jim Hendry. Or punch him. Either one is good.

Sell the team!! Sell it now!!

According to Forbes this year, the Cubs were valued at $448 million this year. I guess we'll see how much they are really worth if the team is sold. I assume that the Forbes valuations are based largely the Tribune's own accounting.

Since I'm one of those that thinks that the Tribune's accounting is full of crap, I suspect the real value of the team is way more than that. I guess we may see how bogus the Tribune company's accounting really is based on how much the team fetches.

I think the sale of the team will only be good for the payroll, and I've believed that for a long time. Cub fans who pay good money to make the team so valuable are only losing out by having the team owned by a big corporation.

If the Cubs are in play it probably won’t happen for a year. The activity this off-season indicates to me that the falling ratings and potentially reduced attendance reduced the price from what the Trib was expecting. That is why we have an open checkbook now, to increase the selling price in the future.

I think if an owner like the Wolves Owner or Mark cuban were to buy the cubs, we'd see the spending limit actually increase quite a bit, maybe even into luxury tax territory.
