I think I'm going to vote for Drew because he's what we need. He has a good slugging percentage with a great OBP.

However, on a one year deal, I'd still love to pencil Bonds in between Lee and Ramirez.

And a lefty bat we could put between our righties.

I'm hopping on the Drew bandwagon. I would prefer him to Soriano and believe he'll be less costly in terms of both $ and years. He addresses the huge OBP need and can play CF or RF -- there's nothing not to like. Go get him, Jim.

I wouldn't weep if the Cubs did get Soriano ... but it does seem that there are a number of teams with a lot of money who are after him, and I do think his contract will be hard for him to live up to by the end of it. I wonder how willing he'd be to play CF. The Cubs still have starting pitching to address after getting a FA outfielder.

Drew - CF with .390 OBP and power? Could hit 3 or 4 for us. Go get him Jim.

assuming he actually would play CF and be competent at it. If he wants to play RF, and the Red Sox are interested, that would be a really obvious fit for him. And, given that the Cubs haven't outbid anyone for a premium free agent in 20 years, there's no reason to think they'd start now.

Someone picked other and didn't specify. I just would like to know what "other" FA hitter someone would prefer.

I picked other. The guy I most liked was Frank Catalonotto - as a bargain anyway. Even though JD Drew gets on base a lot and has a real good OPS+ every year - I can't support him. Just can't do it.

And even though he's not a free agent, I want Eric Patterson at 2B :P

Soriano, but assuming its no more than 4 years and he doesn't bat leadoff.

Drew is a close second, but the only reason he isn't my definite #1 is because he hasn't been able to stay healthy. He clearly has the best numbers, but don't his injuries bother anyone else?
