"We thought it was a good gamble, with his makeup and his winning type of mentality, which speaks for itself," general manager Jim Hendry said. "He could have pitched earlier, but since we were out of it, we didn't force him back

A rotation in shambles last season with injuries, and he openly admits a

"gamble". Arrogance. Pure Arrogance.

Yep I'm guessing that deal took weeks for Hendry to put together - probably wasn't answering Aram's phone calls that whole time either.

Hendry said he has no plans to meet with Aramis Ramirez's agent, Paul Kinzer, at next week's general manager's meetings in Florida.

Wow. You really need to take a step back. Nothing wrong with what Hendry said.

...do you know what the word "arrogance" means? Because it's not that. Not by a longshot.

Saying that Hendry signing a "rehab project" to a low base, high incentive deal is somehow evidence that he is moronic is a difficult position to support

When Aram is a Dodger next week my point will be more clear.

You don't have a point.

No. You just don't agree with my point. Firing a 2nd dart at the

Wade Miller board before securing Aram irks me.

It's called multitasking.

He's welcome to his opinion. Its just not based in reality.

Aren't the GM meetings after our exclusive negotiating rights end?

That ends friday. But don't worry, we have Wade Miller. He might be healthy.

I'm not sure why you are laughing.

The assumption that Hendry isn't working hard to sign Ramirez is ridiculous and baseless. All of the negotiations have already happened from every report I've read. The ball is now in Kinzer's court to shop around and see if anyone is willing to beat and then come back to the Cubs and see if they are willing to match. That's how this game is played. Isn't it?

Signing Miller has nothing to do with Ramirez. Drop it. Talk about Miller in this thread or start another one. This is annoying. Mods?

Nice. I like this deal more and more. 1.5MM base w/ incentives. Beautiful.

Rothschild and Co. think his velo will reappear after some rest. I thought that was likely anyway considering his injury. He also came along slowly b/c we were out of it and there was no reason to push (like Woody did).

At worst Miller is a bottom of the rotation guy. At best he is front of the rotation material.

This is MUCH better than a Rusch-type signing. This guy has potential.

i think the odds of miller showing up to spring training (or any time, really) as a front of the rotation guy are extremely small.

1.5 million is about the most i would be willing to pay miller, but, considering the amount, i guess i'm okay with the signing.

At slightly over 1% of our payroll and only for one year, its hard to argue against it. Especially when guys like Silva and his 75 ERA+ get 4M options picked up.

exactly. the pirates can't do stuff like this, but there's no reason for the cubs to not throw a line or two like this out into water each offseason.

Now we need to trade for Heilman

Now that would be a good idea.

Depending on what would be traded away, yes.

Daisuke is still my first choice. Resigning Ramirez the most pressing issue. And then signing J.D. Drew.

It doesn't seem very likely for the Cubs to pull off all of that, but if they did...

Theriot-2B

Murton-LF

Drew-CF

Lee-1B

Ramirez-3B

Jones-RF

Barrett-C

Izturis-SS

Zambrano

Matzusaka

Hill

Heilman

Prior/Miller

I suppose you could sign a free agent 2B as well, but that's gets the job done, I think.
