A comment that was made by somebody else got me thinking about a new contest. What about doing movie franchises as a contest? The franchise would have to be at least a trilogy to be eligible, but it can be more movies than that. Franchises with big breaks in them that have at least 3 movies on each side (like Star Wars or Star Trek old/new) can be divided up into each section. What do all of you think about that idea, and if you wanted to do it, what would be some nominations that you would want to see in the contest?

Not sure I'd want to do it, but the obvious inclusions would be:

Star Wars

Star Trek

LOTR

Indiana Jones

The Godfather

The Matrix

Dead movies (Dawn of the..Night of the Living...etc.)

Friday the 13th

Nightmare on Elm Street

American Pie

Vacation

Terminator

Die Hard

The Rocky movies should be a number one seed.

I'd think the Harry Potter movies could be included.

What about James Bond movies?

X-Men triology?

I agree with all of those-Bond movies could even be split up by actor possibly (since people look at the different movies very differently).

Also, the Terminator movies, possibly the Superman and Batman movies.

I'm sure there are more important ones out there that I'm not thinking of.

How do you compare a comedy like American Pie with horror movies like Saw I, II & III or Jaws etc. ?

Would Jay & Silent Bob constitute a Franchise?

My thought always would be on that-if you could only buy one and keep it on your shelf, which one would it be? Which ones are such classics that you can continue to enjoy them?

That's a good point. I've bandied about the idea of a best movie poll by Genre, but never been motivated to really flesh it out.

Best Comedy would be an awesome one to have.

I could see NSBB posters coming to blows over that one.

In other words, let's do it! :D

I would okay a best comedy tourney if it was a field of, say, 512 films or so

Sounds good.

Hey, I hear you're good at organizing these types of things...

DOES NOT WANT

I would organize it, but I probably have not seen enough of the "classic" comedies to be qualified...and I'd probably name Anchorman the No. 1 overall seed strictly out of bias.

 Boy, do you have a lot of movies to watch.

Agreed. Like Old School.

Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail = #1 comedy!

I have to go with The Life of Brian as the #1 Monty Python.

Gotta agree with Vance on this one.

It's funny how over here that movie is almost universally agreed upon to be the best Python film, while in the UK the Life of Brian is the #1 Python film.
