That is what the Yanks would ask, if Piniella wants A-Rod.

Personally, I don't think it would take Zambrano.

But would ya? Zambrano is a great pitcher, but it's been shown time and again in MVP discussions that a great hitter affects your season much much more than a great pitcher.

So would ya?

No. And the Yankees would not seriously ask for Zambrano.

By the way, isn't this a Transactions thread? Better yet, isn't there already more than one thread in Transactions to cover this?

My initial answer is no.

But if in trying to extend Zambrano, I feel he is going to test the FA waters next offseason and leave the Cubs with no compensation, I might consider the deal.

I'd probably want another player in addition to Arod or cash thrown in the deal if I included Zambrano.

If there is, I'm sorry. I didn't know there was a transactions thread, and I didn't know this was a transaction. .

Is there a speculations forum?

The description of the transactions forum is: A forum for discussing trades, free agent signings, etc. - either real or imagined.

So there isn't a thread, but there is a forum. And speculated transactions should go there.

Transactions is the forum to discuss transactions, real or otherwise.

I'd do this in a heartbeat. ARod is one of the 20 greatest players in baseball history. Even though he's passed his absolutely prime, he still has a lot of outstanding years ahead of him. (HOFs tend to be extremely productive well into their 30s.) Z has a lot of wear and tear on his arm and there are red flags about his future performance (high walk rates.) He's also gonna get very expensive in the next year or so to the point where he's only making a couple of million less than what the Cubs would have to pay ARod. Given the composition of the Cubs farm system, the Cubs are far more likely to be able to replace Z than to acquire a hitter of ARod's caliber.

I noticed you're new to the forum. I wasn't trying to give you a hard time. As a few already stated, speculation trades do go in the Transactions forum typically, and you'll see there is a 7 page A-Rod discussion under-way, where Zambrano's name is frequently tossed around.

Welcome and enjoy.

Put me in the category of not making the deal and not thinking twice about it. There's no way I give up a young ace for anything. Above average pitching is hard to come by these days, and Carlos is well above average. He's the kind of guy you build a championship team around.

No, don't even have to contemplate it. You don't trade away your only proven SP unless you get a pitcher of the same magnitude in return, in this case we're not.

Now, if the Yanks throw in Phillip Hughes or Chien Ming Wang, I might think about it.

Z, Cedeno for A-Rod Cano would be huge for our offense..

Cano is a killer top of the order guy.

Like another poster said, we are more likely to produce another good arm than a position player of a-rods caliber.

Not going to happen.

I know, I was just making a point that it would take something like that to make me consider trading Z.

Thanks. I was trying to be funny.

In short - I don't think you trade Z for A-Rod. If you can go Prior and a prospect or two, you do it.

Zambrano is a horse and a Cy Young favorite when the team gets better. When the Cubs get back to postseason, he's the guy.
