    • He's okay. There were still better options, but he's still an upgrade over Dusty.

... Just want to see what NSBB thinks. I have no clue, because us expected Girardi.. and in the topics most people favored Lou. Bochy and Brenly were also mentioned often.

I went with the 2nd to last one. I don't like hiring him, but if part of the package was a higher payroll and a promise to bring in impact players, I can live with it.

Need more options.

If it means Hendry thinks all he needed was a crotchety old manager to spice up the clubhouse, then I hate it. If it means Hendry is going to pull out all the stops to win in 2007, I might like it, depending on what players he actually acquires.

Piniella is just a big baby who kicks dirt when he doesnt get his way. Zambrano's fire and pssion is exhilerating (sp?), Piniella's is just annoying.

However, if he nets us Arod then i'll shut my trap.

I would rather have Dierker.

I like the Lou signing. Tells me that the Cubs want to win now.

And choices like Bochy wouldn't.

Or if Dierker had been hired, he wouldn't mean the Cubs wanted to win?

Didn't hiring Dusty mean the Cubs wanted to win too?

I love me some meaningless cliche's backed up my meaningless conventional wisdom.

If it weren't for the Bears victory, I'd be pissed. He stinks and almost anyone else was better.

as demonstrated by a career winning % of .517 (even after managing Tampa)?

You need to relax. It was just a joke.

It's all about the team you have, not so much about the coach. The rare cases are like Baker who's still stuck in the '60s in regards to walks, and Lou doesn't seem to be any improvement. I mean, Baker had a pretty winning percentage too.

He doesn't even know what WHIP is for Christ's sake. I'm not saying he might not be successful, if we field a good team, there's a chance he will be, like in Seattle.

But I think just about anyone else would have been better.

But he did note the importance of on-base percentage and said his hitting coach would work with hitters to raise the Cubs’ walk total from a paltry 395 this year, which was last in the league.

Piniella said he values statistical analysis in general.

“I like numbers; I love numbers,” he said. “I look at all the reports. I think the game of baseball is a percentage game. The more I can keep percentages on our team’s side, the more successful the team will be.

“Do I use my gut from time to time? Yeah, obviously. But if it’s gut or numbers, you give me the numbers 90 percent of the time, and that’s the end of that.”

This is much better. I'd bump mine up to #2.

If the guy bring a titile to chicago then my opinion might soften. a true idiot though with those rants of his.

Then anyone's opinion will soften... Likely to happen? No.

What we do have is a good chance at A-Rod. I think that will get most fans satisfied enough.

I'm in the camp of, This train wreck can't get much worse, so let's at least give him some time to show how much of next year's failure will be because of him and how much will be because of the players Hendry (doesn't) put in the clubhouse.

I was totally opposed to it, picking just about anybody not named Dusty over him. However, his comments about improving on base percentage and stats definitely perked my ears. I'm going to give him a chance.
