Evidently this writer thinks he has.

If Pujols isn't careful it'll happen to him, and if you're wondering why it hasn't happened yet, look at his address. He plays in St. Louis, a town that for years has looked the other way for its best baseball players. For example, I'm writing this story from the Enos Slaughter Room. Slaughter was behind a near-boycott in 1947 when the Cardinals objected to the color of Jackie Robinson's skin. In some places a player gets maligned for that sort of thing. In St. Louis he gets a room named after him.

The same goes for Pujols, whose boorish behavior is becoming known now that he is on a national stage. Before the NLCS began, Pujols approached a crowd of reporters waiting to speak with him -- during the specific time the media was allowed in the clubhouse -- and growled, "Get out of my freaking locker."

Pujols dressed, turned and spotted some reporters still hoping for a moment of his time. Pujols gave them a moment. It went like this: "You guys are a pain ... you know that?"

We are what we are, Albert. That's no secret.

But you are what you are, too. That's no longer a secret, either.

I personally liked how he refused to give Glavine credit for pitching well against them. That showed a lot of arrogance to me.

But, hey! Wait a sec and some Cardinal fans will start mentioning his charity work and how we should all genuflect before him.

Seriously, Albert is a hyper competitive person. He can be a huge dick when he is struggling. I don't see why this is something A) shocking, B) to be ashamed of, or C) a bad thing.

I like Albert Pujols because he is an incredibly hitter and he plays on my favorite team. I could care less whether the New York Media likes him. This isn't the first time they've done a hatchet job on somebody who gives them the cold shoulder. If I had just gotten shut out and gone through one of the longest hitless streaks of my career, in the playoffs no less, I wouldn't want to talk to them either. Then again, I can be a huge dick sometimes.

I'd actually like Albert less if he was willing to be Mr. Sunshine right after a huge loss.

Roid rage....it catches up to them every time.

That and the old age. He is getting grumpy in his later years.

Before long he'll be at the Dominican VFW rambling on and mixing up Spanish-American war stories and confrtontations with umpires.

Something that has gone unmentioned, at least to my knowledge, is how long Pujols posses at the plate after hitting a home run. Why do the pitchers allow him to get by with this? The other thing he does is his little "bat flip" after he gets walked. As if he is saying "I'm too good for you, you don't have the nuts to pitch to me". Pure arrogance, in my opinion.

There was a thread about this earlier this year that was about 40 pages long.

My conclusion: Unfortunately many players pose after homeruns. Cubs fans hate Albert because he is historically good so they use this against him even though it is hypocritical to complain about him and not Ramirez or Jones posing and bat flipping. Or Zambrano's gesticulations. Most reasonable people don't care as long as it doesn't get out of hand. I know I don't. After all, if anyone should think he is better than the pitcher he just took yard, it should be the best hitter in baseball.

You are correct. So we'll give David Ortiz that right.

Wolf - Don't you think it was amazing that Enos "Country" Slaughter was such a good hitter - considering he wore a white hood and all. Must of had extra wide peep holes.

I don't have a problem with Pujols posing any more than I do with Aramis doing it or with Zambrano's antics. I personally like that Z is hypercompetitive and though I could do without Aramis's poses, they don't bother me that much as long as he gets it done.

And he should be a jerk to people if he's struggling. I would be too.

What on earth does this have to with Pujols? Unless you are saying rude to media = racist klansman.

Just because a slighted journalist put it an article doesn't make it relevant.

The point made by the author (and that you obviously ignored) is simply pointing out the silliness of blind worship (whether it be Pujols, McGwire or Slaughter) by a group of fans, local media and an organizaton. Don't you think it's its "ridiculous and assinine" that a franchise named a room after a known bigot like Slaughter?

Jackie Robinson was one of the most influential and courageous baseball players that ever lived. Naming a room after Slaughter is a slap in his face.

What if Chicago named a room after Cap Anson? It's a ridiculous attempt to somehow denigrate St. Louis and it's fans.

Pujols is pretty arrogant. His umpire stare has gotten out of control. I respect him less and less every year. If only every player could be an injured robot.

With respect to umpires, Z and Pujols are moving in opposite directions with their reactions to them.

My point was you could go all day about a certain player's character and it's pointless. Pujols is not a bad guy because he doesn't talk to the media/stares at the umpire. Same goes for Zambrano.

Hey Voice, since you're so offended by Slaughter being acknowledged, I'm sure you have expressed your dismay in letters to the organization stating your case. Am I right, or have you just wasted your time trying to make a few nice Cards fans feel bad about something they have NOTHING to do with?

I don't how this got into racism and the hypocrisy of the Cardinals org, but my point is that Michael Jordan is a jerk, Tiger Woods is a jerk, Ted Williams was a jerk, etc etc. I really don't care if people like him, as long as Albert is breaking laws, rules, or doing something loathesome (racism) I don't really care how nice he is to the media. As long as he keeps putting up insane offensive production he can be a douche to whoever he wants, especially considering he is by all accounts a positive clubhouse influence, a good man in the community and not a criminal.
