Throws out a different angle about Lou Piniella (and feel free to move it, if need be)

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/telander/96855,CST-SPT-rick15.article

Telander basically implies, that the Cubs COULD be back in this situation against next yr, and would have miss out of some qualified candidates THIS yr. Could you imagine if the Cubs hired Piniella this yr, have a decent season say....88-74...who'se to say that when the Yanks fail to meet "The Boss" expectations, that Georgie would be come-a-callin' for Piniella next yr? I mean to Lou Piniella, the Cubs or the Yankees...there's no choice.

So, if I am Jim Hendry I better do all the homework you can do on Piniella, or this hire (alledgedly) can be disasterous for Hendry, and may put a serious stench on his resume for the rest of his career. Think hard, Hendry, think awfully hard.

The article is a bit pointless. I'm sure there will be qualified candidates next year if Lou leaves.

I think Torre is always a possibility if the Yankees don't win the WS in '07. Of course, I think the better candidates (minus Bochy) will be avail. next year as well as currently depending on the Cubs having narrowed it down to Girardi/Piniella. I believe there are better managers out there.

Even if the Yanks don't have a job opening, I don't see Piniella in Chicago for the long-haul. I think he has 2-3 years at the most. I believe the Cubs have a 2-year window. If Hendry doesn't win in 2 years, he's gone. Piniella likely goes with him. If the Cubs win w/i the next 2 years, I think Piniella retires on top. He's over 60. No job is gonna be long-term for him.

Not a problem, we can get ARod for compensation.

I think you will see Telender with alot more Cubs coverage and less Bears coverage from now on.

Personally I think everything that comes out of his mouth sucks.

If you're referring to the article I think you are, that was one of the worst pieces of sportswriter tripe I've ever read this side of Jay Mariotti.

The "Bears Locker Room Maturity" article is what I am talking about.

Yes. Simply terrible.

You don't think Bochy will be available next year? Or am I misreading your post?

Raisin, I was speaking of better candidates out there right now than Piniella & Girardi. I think Bochy is the best avail., but at this stage, I like the candidates for the Rangers moreso than the Cubs.

I'd be very, very surprised if the Cubs gave Piniella any sort of "out" that allowed him to take a job managing the Yankees. If he's committed to win here, it'll definitely be because he's committed to staying here. What kind of "win now" mentality could you get out of a guy who would always be looking to get out?
