Funny - isn't FOX the network that airs "Family Guy?" I'd love to know how supposedly intelligent people can justify racial, sexual, and about every other possible slur in one case, but not in another.

I heard the quote from Lyons and as far as I can tell it had little or nothing to do with any kind of racial slur. I don't care for the guy either, but my guess is that someone(s) higher up in FOX were just looking for an excuse to can him.

Political correctness has gotten so out of whack these days.

And yet another reason why I couldn't be an announcer.

My mom and grandma always tell me that I should have been an announcer. I keep telling them they I dont have the patience and the teams dont have the sensor equipment when I watch a game. I swear a lot.

Besides, I throw stuff.

FWIW, I swear a lot when watching games, but haven't come close to doing so when broadcasting high school football or doing radio show for the last year. I think our built-in sensors are better than you think.

It's actually pretty simple: look at Family Guy's typical audience versus playoff baseball's typical audience. Being offended is all about the content's appropriateness compared to the viewers' expectations. A slightly off-color comment during baseball is magnified by the belief that its viewers did not expect it or seek it out.

Again, I'm sure it was a combination of this and past events.

My built in sensor is good because I have to use it around my parents. I was talking more about making a racial or sexual joke that I don't think is inappropriate but a few people might because they have their panties in a bunch and then I would get fired for it.

I would just like to point out that, with this statement, you have just left yourself wide open for an inordinate amount of good-natured fun-poking.

Can I exclude what I write on message boards? :D

"He’s not even a practicing Jew. He didn’t marry a Jewish girl. And from what I understand, he never had a bar mitzvah, which is unfortunate because he doesn’t get the money."

I think that's alot worse than this current situation

That was actually a situation. This is just over-sensitivity.

not at all. this is just as bad if not worse.

I've decided Lyons is right and Fox and the rest are dead wrong.

Terrible decision.

I'm sure Steve will be relieved to hear of your decision

I don't care much for him as an analyst but I did hear him on Mike and Mike ( I know, I don't have much to do today) this morning and I think Fox dropped the ball also.

I actually like that he's gone, because he sucks. But that is terrible reasoning for firing him.

I'm just sorry it wasn't Joe Buck.

I hate Bucker. It was so obvious last night that he didnt want to announce the game anymore after the Mets turned the game into a route.

=D>

From a die hard Cards fan . . . Joe Buck is absolutely arrogant, moronic with humor, and a horrible announcer. THe Randy Moss thing just put the icing on the cake. Azzclown doesn't do it justice.

You gotta believe someone at Fox was just looking for some excuse to get rid of him

I don't see how any network could possibly justify keeping him on after his history of saying really, really stupid things. He should have been fired two years ago, but better late than never.

He didn't say anything wrong outside of all his stupid baseball talk.

You really don't think his comments about Shawn Green were out of line?

Nope, not at all, and I've so far heard from more than 10 jews who don't think so either.

Nobody talked much about that statement until this firing, which tells me people are just reaching, which they clearly are, to justify an overly sensitive rationale.

Yeah, I'm amused that the company that canned Lyons for his comments is the same company that has "Family Guy" and "American Dad" on Saturday nights, and regularly has on folks like Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter on its news station.

There was plenty of coverage of it back then.

He didn't just say he should have played. It was bordering on anti-Semitism. I didn't hear him go off on Christians who don't go to church every week but observe Easter or Christmas. And I certainly didn't hear him talk about how Christmas is all about getting money and gifts. The money comment was jaw dropping. And not marrying a Jewish woman? I don't think I could have made that up.

I wasn't aware that Lyons job was to tell us what being Jewish meant and to trash those who didn't meet his requirements.

That's not what he did at all and you know it. He was talking about a player's dedication to his team and teammates.

Really? What exactly does any of that have to do with baseball aside from the decision to play or not? There was absolutely no reason to say any of that.
