Harangody is surprisingly athletic for such a large man. This is the first game I'm watching him play and he's a stud.

72-66 ND :D

Jamar Smith back with a vengeance 5-5 from 3 pointers tonight.

jamar smith when playing well is my favorite basketball player of all time.

It's gonna take some special moments for somebody to pass Jack Ingram for me. But Jamar is definitely my favorite on this year's team, and probably last's too.

A couple of stupid turnovers (Kurz doesn't see a pass coming and McAlarney inadvertently walks in the backcourt) rob ND of a chance to really put the heat on.

85-75 with 4 minutes to go.

<3 Russell Carter

ND doing their best 05-06 impersonation, blowing a late lead against a good team. It's 85-80 and Bama's headed to the line for 2.

I'm really hoping UIC can beat big brother, Illinois, on Saturday.

Doubt that's going to happen, especially with Smith back for Illinois.

UIC beat NIU by over 20 last night. NIU is going to really struggle this year. Losing by 23 to a very mediocre UIC team is a pretty strong indication that NIU is going to suck this year.

Carter looks like a stud.

Three point play possibility!!! Wow, ND was on the verge of a monumental collapse and then they go on a 7-0 run in the span of just a few seconds.

99-85! :D

I freaking dare you to leave us off the bubble again this year Selection Committee. Two great OOC wins by the Irish! They should be 12-1 when Big East play begins against Louisville on January 3rd.

I'm a Notre Dame fan, but they were not on the bubble last year. RPI of 95, barely above 500. Not a single win over a tournament team(Though I think Hofstra deserved to go.) I understand that pretty much every loss came in ridiculous fashion, but there comes a point around loss #10 by 1 possession that you can't keep forgiving a team, and you have to start punishing them for not being able to close out a game.

Well, I was referring to the two years previous to that when they went 9-7 each year and were denied. No matter how close they were to being a good team, they were 12th in the Big East and that's not going to get you invited.

Again it looked like RPI that did them in with 73 and 49 respectively those 2 years. In case anyone doesn't know about the site, kenpom.com is a great source for up to date RPIs along with a quick way to find a teams schedule and results to date.

Warrennolan.com is another good RPI site.

Jack Ingram has Kent status. The Wisconsin game is the beginning and the end of the conversation.

I suppose that probably should have been made clear before this converation was started. My apologies.

And he didn't even rest on his laurels after that making THE STEAL against Arizona.

someone on here (burnt?) sent me a hi-def video of the ending sequence of the arizona game, and i still watch it every couple of weeks or so. i don't think that'll ever be topped for me, national championship be damned.

I still pop in my dvd of that game. This year after the Arizona game I needed to be reminded of it. Always gets me fired up.

article in today's CDT reminding us of how PSU's OOC is going to kill their RPI. They are 6-2 with an RPI of 135. As the article says, "The potential for easy wins over weak teams can be completely cancelled out by an upset loss." PSU's two losses are to Georgia Tech (fine for the RPI) and Stony Brook (RPI killer). They may have to win 9 or 10 Big 10 games in order to dance in March....a tall order

of course, having a terrible OOC schedule is probably the only chance Penn State has of having a winning record, and therefore, a bid into the NIT. When you lose to Stony Brook and barely beat Hartford and Morgan St, you should just give up on any NCAA tourney aspirations.

i keep waiting for DeChellis to light a fire under their butts, but he's been rubbing two sticks together for 8 games now and nothing has done the trick. They are falling into the "playing the name on the jersey" mentality, not taking these "bad" teams seriously, while playing hard against GT. The team has talent, and should be beating these bad schools by 10-15 points per game, but they just play with no energy or focus. If it doesn't change, they are going to get murdered in Big 10 play.

Stony Brook isn't Division I right? If they aren't, the loss doesn't go against PSU's RPI because the RPI only takes into effect the Division I games.

I know this for a fact because last year, SIU lost to D2 Alaska-Anchorage, but the game didn't count as far as the RPI. It still qualified as one of our "bad losses" to the selection committee, but as far as the RPI went, it didn't help or hurt it.

No, Stony Brook is an America East team. They were 4-24 last year, but they are D-I.

For the record, Iowa and Northwestern are the only Big 10 teams with lower RPI's right now. St. Joe's is PSU's only quality win right now.

The rest of their pathetic OOC is:

@Seton Hall

Long Island

SE Louisiana

Maine

Virginia Military

that is after already playing:

Morehead St.

NC Greensboro

Stony Brook

Bucknell

St. Joe's

@Georgia Tech

Morgan St.

Hartford

it would be tough to find a power conference team with a crappier OOC
