Post all you want about Huggins, but Kstate wasn't the school cited for lack of institutional control....

[hyperbolic smack talk]

You haven't given Huggins enough time yet, I'm sure he can get into as much trouble as Dollar Bill if you give him a season or two. :P

[/hyperbolic smack talk]

Hahaha! That made me laugh. I don't need to relax, I just love to jaw a bit with squawk fans.

IU won its first exhibition game 95-50 over North Dakota. Very balanced attack. Strong defensive performance. Great rebounding. Great from the field. Great from 3.

Got 16 votes in the polls. Gonna be an interesting season. Easiest preseason schedule in a while, with only Duke being a non-winnable game.

I'm not sure about still the easy pre-season schedule. Duke, Southern Illinois, Kentucky, the preseason NIT (hopefully past the first two rounds), and I know this game is actually during the conference season but Connecticut should make this non-conference season again a little too much. I fully support having a couple tests non-conference, but playing what is likely to be 4-5 top 25 teams non-conference (depending on how the preseason NIT goes) before going into the Big 10 is a little too much for me. Well, this team learning the system will certainly be battle-tested by the time it comes to conference play once again, however.

I didn't say it was easy. I said "easiest in a while". I expect at least 3 non-conference losses, and as many as 6 (including an annual slip up against a state rival ND, Butler, ISU). But Duke is the only one looking like a mismatch, unless they meet UNC in the NIT. UK, SIU, and even UConn are all pretty even teams to me. And if they past the 1st 2 rounds in the NIT, Gonzaga and Tennessee are comparable and beatable teams.

A lot of inexperience in college basketball this season. Does anyone have a returning contributor that's a senior?

I think any school that even considered hiring Huggins should've ben cited for lack of institutional control.

The answer to that is Colin Falls, the best shooter in the country, for ND.

If only he could do anything else...

Bah. Nikola Dragovic was ruled inelgible for UCLA's first 10 games by the NCAA for his participation (in 10 games) on a Serbian team that had players who were paid.

Man that seems a little steep.

I agree.

I don't know what to expect out of Nikola, he seemed totally lost in the last exhibition game but during warmups/practice, he has such a beautiful shot. Those 10 games could have helped him out.

It's nice to see Michigan St not play a powerhouse in their first game for once.

They need it, they're way down this year.

Tom Izzo is still their coach, they will be fine.

I'm sure they won't humiliate themselves(mainly due to Izzo), but they really need the influx of talent their '07 class will get them, unless Morgan is a lot better than I thought. When Drew Neitzel is expected to carry the scoring load...

DEPAUL TOMORROW!!! CANT WAIT!

It's good to see Depaul's recuiting class is in the top 10 on most publications.

Tom Izzo = Overrated. There are at least 3 coaches better than him in the Big 10. Bruce Weber, Thad Matta, and Bo Ryan are all better than Izzo. It wasn't hard for him to win when he had so much talent there in the past. Now that the talent level at MSU is more on par with other teams in the Big 10 we will see how good of a coach he is.

Bringing in the talent is half the job. Every player Izzo's ever recruited that didn't go pro early has made the Final 4. The last couple years all the early entries caught up to him, especially the stupid and unexpected ones like Taylor and Lorbek. Like I said, I don't expect big things this year, but teams probably need to get their shots in now with the '07 class he brought in.

ND against IPFW tonight to open regular season play. The Irish damn near lost to them last year on the road, so let's not replicate that, k?

we play you guys this year, and with mejia, chandler, and the way the team gelled at the end if the season last year, I'm expecting a tough game.

I thought they were crazy playing all those teams. I could see a few but they played way too many tough teams IMO the past couple of years.

agreed... if the Big Ten were a joke I could understand it, but it's not. Too many hard games in and out of conference for them. It's admirable to play a schedule like that, but not the best idea.

SIU won 59-28. Not too pretty on the offensive end, but the defense was in great form as usual. Washington only scored 12 points in the first half, and they didn't get a field goal in the 2nd half until the 10 minute mark. Even though it's against lesser competition, it's still nice to see the defense play as well as they did.

Next up: Murray State next Sunday. Unfortunately, it's during Thanksgiving break :(

Ball State against 3-win (in 05-06) Northern Colorado Saturday at 1 pm at John E. Worthen Arena. I'm all kinds of pumped to return to The Nest, the MAC's best student section. Hopefully Ronny Thompson can live up to his pedigree this season.
