Players have deviant results in small sample sizes all the time.

But hitters do make adjustments, and sometimes they matter. It's at least possible that a young hitter like Cedeno has done that, for the good? Who knows what that might be. Perhaps something to get back toward the comfort level and plate coverage that he had in 2005. Probably just a meaningless small-sample fluke, but it's at least possible that it bodes well for future.

Cedeno showed enough good in 05 to think he had a chance to be good. He showed enough bad in 06 to think he might be worthless. (His defense, hustle, and game awareness also seemed often unsatisfactory.) Given the Izturis contract and situation, I would certainly like to see Cedeno get the year at Iowa and see if he can reestablish himself as a plausible, acceptable low-cost SS down the road.

One other hopeful thought. Some adjustments take a while to pay off. Cedeno got himself out on a lot of bad balls in 2006, and walked little. His winter and playoff walk rate has been fine, nothing special but 10% or so. But that hasn't been continuous. Over his first 50 AB he had only one walk. So his next 100 AB involved a lot of walks to catch up, and he's sustained decent rate in playoffs. It's possible that he made a change, resulting in the somewhat abrupt increase in walks received, that it didn't pay off in terms of improved hitting right away, but that now he's reaping some benefits in his hitting?

One can always hope.

Is it possible Ronny was "working on something" (swing, stance, philosophy, who knows?) during the regular season (some people think that's what minor leagues and winter leagues are for) and now in the playoffs is just trying to hit the ball?

"Ronny, go home and forget everything Dusty Baker ever told you about hitting"

"Ok, but it may take until the playoffs to do that"

That's certainly less impressive than his playoff numbers. However, there are certainly a lot of positive things he can take out of this winter.

Venezuelan Winter League: Magallanes and Aragua emerged from the round-robin tournament, and held their pre-final player draft on Sunday. Magallanes added catcher Henry Blanco, while Aragua picked up first baseman Randall Simon. In order to make room for Simon, the Tigers dropped Diamondbacks catching prospect Miguel Montero from its roster. The Venezuelan final begins Tuesday in Valencia.

SS R. Cedeño 0/0, BB (7) - ejected in the second inning after his walk, along with opposing pitcher Géremi González - from what I can tell, it was for arguing but someone who knows better Spanish might want to help out:

Per Google. I modified it a bit to make more sense:

The game was interrupted by several minutes because the dugouts emptied of both teams after a discussion between the pitcher Géremi González and the batter Ronny Cedeño. Both players were expelled from the game.

That's what I thought it was, but my Spanish is limited. A bench-clearing brawl and the pitcher and batter were ejected...but how does a walk cause a bench-clearing brawl?

And yes, this is former Cub Géremi González.

Just saw it on SportsCenter. Gonzalez threw the ball behind Cedeno on a 3-0 pitch. Cedeno didn't like it and started jawing at Gonzalez. Gonzalez started walking towards Cedeno and they continued jawing (Cedeno was sort of walking towards first but not really). Then Gonzalez charged at Cedeno and the benches cleared. Both were ejected.

I'd certainly think you weight the playoff numbers heavier. It looks like he working on specific things during the reg season, and concentrating on winning during the playoffs.
