The best part about watching long-suffering fans celebrate is that someday ours is going to make the rest of them look like a family picnic in the park.

22 years is not long-suffering. If I was alive when a team last won a World Series, it's not a long drought.

But if I wasn't, then it is. :D

The Ordonez gamble pays off for Detroit.

shoulda gone after him Jim.

but what else is new.

He gets one big hit in the playoffs and that justifies his huge contract? I don't think so.

16 million for an .827 OPS? no thanks.

For a clutch, Pennant Winning HR?

Yes, Please.

An .827 OPS in right field probably won't allow you to get to that situation in the first place.

I bet Aaron Boone would accept that contract . . .

Umm...Ordonez wasn't the reason the Tigers got to this situation.

All I'm saying, is that I wouldn't complain a bit about a guy's paycheck if he hits a Pennant Winning HR. I understand baseball is a lot more complicated and requires many factors agreeing to propel a team that far, but would you complain if the Cubs paid CLee $26 mil per year, and he ends up hitting a shot like that? Does it really matter what salary looks like if your team just got into the World Series like that?

Sure, he may get paid too much, but hitting a walkoff in a spot that a lot would fail in validates any overspending, IMO. I'm not saying assembling a team full of the most obscure clutch hitters wins a WS, but if someone does that for your team, I'm pretty sure you're not complaining about a stat or dollar sign in the world.

sure you are.

Aaron Boone should not be employed on a major league roster and the fact that he hit one home run in a clutch situation does not justify the fact that he has been decidedly below average for a few years.
