I was disgusted by his display in the press conference. He looked completely clueless. He looked like a man who was forced to do a press conference after his wife left him.

I meant, he looked like a guy who was forced to do a press conference where he'd be asked about prospective dates just after his wife left him. He didn't seem the least bit interested in who would next manage the Cubs.

For now, I could live with Hendry as manager/GM, just for the humor, if not, then to set the record straight about what he actually wants done on the field. If anything, it could hasten his exit.

I'd miss Brenly if he left, but if it came with Stoney coming back I could get over it. I'm not surprised he's diving back into managing, it seemed at many points over the last two years that he wished he were managing.

The Cubs should have a list prepared of candidates they want. If they deem Girardi to be the best candidate they should move quickly before somebody else hires him. But a mid-November timetable for hiring a new manager is just unacceptable.

Just playing the advocate here, but how does Hendry have a complete list in August when some of his likely candidates were still gainfully employed and not allowed to be contacted?

... there's no reason the Cubs couldn't have done the same.

 

And most every business out there, including sports teams, have their ducks lined up in advance through back channel communications. At the very least, you should have a list of who you'd like, and you should have a decent idea of who would be interested in the job. Anything less than that is incompetent management.

 

I would imagine that the FL owner is such a vindictive rectum that he would have (did?) denied permission to speak with Girardi. I'm sure the Braves allowed contact w/ F. Gonzo as soon as asked.

The Braves did allow Fredi Gonzalez to be interviewed. Since the season hadn't ended yet, the the request also had to go through the Commissioner's Office, which also granted approval.
