When he said "win the World Series" a laugh came from the other room of my house

Your baby is on top of things.

I just want to state for the record that while I want to see Jim Hendry and his antiquated approach to player evaluation gone, I know that he is still FAR from the worst option out there.

There are many other potential GM's with a poor understanding of statistical analysis who would not be able to pull off a Lee for Choi or Nomar deal.

I think Jim's philosophy of building the system from the ground up is the correct one, and his recent attempts to acquire younger talent instead of McGriff types are admirable. If he just valued OBP% more, I believe he could be a very good general manager.

I fear Gary Hughes.

I agree with this post completely....there are worse GMs than Hendry, he has made some smart moves in his time, we've never had a player ditch us during this time because of management or salary issues.

Isn't your daughter a little young to be that cynical? :D

McDonough: My goal is for the Cubs to win the World Series. Not win the wild card, the division, the pennant. It's time to win the World Series.

Well, I hope he means it.

yes me too, he went on to say if we dont, im not doing my job

Well look forward to ads on the back of players jerseys, probably on nearby churches too.

If it means a world series I could give two cents.

Oh, you'll pay.

I doubt it. I haven't went to a game since '03. I haven't bought any cub apparell forever. Got my two jerseys and hats.

Get ready for CubsTax. Catch the excitement.

No manager is going to want to come into such an unsettled situation.

Just watch. RumDum will be brought back.

My thoughts exactly.

And it sounds like Hendry is not going anywhere.

I think Chris Spier wouldn't be a bad choice to be a 1 year manager in this kind of situation.

I'm still convinced he would have been interim manager for the second half of this season if he didn't get that DUI.

Mcdonugh might be the guy to lean on the Tribune to open those pocket books.

The problem is that they already do. Maybe McDonugh (or however you spell it) will be the one to lean on Hendry to make better moves?

i doubt it too, just throwing it out there.

If the Cubs do not win in 2007, everyone has some great audio clips to e-mail the front office.

true. I hope Jon is recording.

Why, 90 million dollars got us nowhere. If I was the Trib I'd say, here's 70 million, now go win a world series. And spare us the crappy ads, please. I don't need to see the Burger King game conditions.

I think its obvious Hendry is safe, at least through 2007.

I think Hendry knows that too. Will be interesting to see the moves he tries to make in order to save his job.

Obviously because McDonough has the "interim" tag he can be replaced at any point. I don't think that he has a year or any length of time attributed to him. If Sandy Alderson and Kevin Towers were available after the playoffs, the Cubs would be stupid to pass.

Dusty won't be back. The need to hire a manger, though, may be one reason why they wanted someone to immediately annount the new President.
