Milwaukee free-agent infielder Tony Graffanino may be on the Cubs' radar as a utilityman next year. Graffanino nearly became a Cub last spring in a three-way deal that would have sent Todd Walker to Baltimore and Luis Matos to Kansas City

The thing that I got out of it though, was that there was never Walker for Matos straight up, getting Graffanino for Walker wouldn't have been ideal but it would have been a heck of a lot better than Matos.

Graffanino is on my bench for next year. I think it would be a good move. He can play multiple positions, and he will hit around .300 with a obp close to .355 Edited by baseball7897

Graffanino would make a great addition to the bench. At probably around 2 million though? I don't know, without looking at this year's free agents, I'm betting that we could get a similar player who provides about the same production for around one mill.

Better, most likely yes. Significantly better? Most likely no.

We have enough IFs. Really the spots we need to fill on the bench are power hitters, something Graffanino doesn't supply enough of.

We could do worse, but I'd rather pass.

Yeah and don't forget about that incredible error he had against in the playoffs against the whitesox last year. That was one of the most non-clutch performances this side of Alex Gonzalez. Then next game, in boston, the fans cheered him. Right then at that moment, somewhere in the continental united states, Bill Buckner put his foot through a tv set.

Certainly, it may come down to money (doesn't it always?) but I doubt that Graffanino goes to the Cubs. My guess, and it's just a guess, is that he tries very hard to get to BAL, PHL or NYM or some other Eastern team to stay close to his family. Tony has two young boys (one of whom plays in the same little league as my son), and I know that last year he tried to hook on with a team in the East to stay closer to his family. I imagine that will be his same game plan this offseason.
