I voted other though I do fear that the Dems will be stupid enough to nominate either Kerry, Clinton or Gore. All 3 of them talk down to the general masses and wouldnt be good candidates.

The govenor of New Mexico, I think his name is Mark Richardson may also be one of those "who" candidates who emerges from the field to win a nomination.

The republicans are really short on good candidates. McCain may be the best at this point but if you are a Republican you have to hoping a better candidate ermerges.

Bill Richardson, not Mark.

Bill Richardson? As in Fromer Secretary of Energy and Gov. of Arizona, Bill Richardson? I don't see that happening. The Republicans would destroy him on the Los Alamos leaks alone. But I'd love to hear why you think he could still be a viable candidate, because before the stories of that leak came out I thought he had a shot too.

You don't think there's a large section of the GOP that wouldn't ever want a female, African-American president?

What Conservatives want in order of importance

fiscal responsibility

strong on national defense

someone that can win

end of list

There might be a tiny section of the GOP that wouldn't embrace an African American female candidate.

The same is also true for the DNC

by the first criteria, Bush has been a nightmare, eh?

Absolutely, which is why I believe that fiscal responsibility is much more important to the core of the Republican party than any other issue.

Perhaps that's why polls are currently showing that Guiliani would win the nomination.

In the end, I think it's going to be Warner vs. Romney, and a big issue is going to come down to whether or not Americans are ready for a Mormon president.

I'm not ready.

What I AM ready for is a president who leaves his religious beliefs in the chapel

Hillary doesn't have a prayer. She will only make the red states redder, which means the Democrats lose. Warner is a candidate who might actually change some red states to blue.

A lot of democrats hate/resent her as well

Yeah, and even among the Dems who like her there are plenty who admit she's unelectable as Pres. I think she should shoot for Senate majority leader. That can be a powerful office if you stay long enough to cement your place there and you have a big personality. She could bring some rockstar type charisma to the office.

Then that would be like saying leave your education from the university at the edge of the campus , or any other institution that is part of our overall development.

This may have already been stated in the thread, but I believe that a great deal of who wins depends on how the Dems represent themselves over the next 2 years. If they aren't complete antagonistic a-holes then the next POTUS could be a Dem. If they bog the country down in investigations and kowtowing to the global community then they can likely forget being elected to Pres.

I picked Romney, but don't necessarily think he'd win. In fact, I'm not sure I'd even vote for him, but he does seem to have some good traits going for him.

I don't think he'd a have snowball's chance in hell, but don't be surprised if you see Gingrich take a stab at running for Pres.

This is why it might've been better for the Dems in the long run if they hadn't won the House and Senate. If Republicans had maintained control until 2008, they likely would have alienated everyone even further, and the Dems wouldn't even have to have a platform in order to win the Presidency because just the prospect of a new party in power would be enough. But now the Dems will have to prove they deserve the power.

Honestly, part of me is rooting for them. A moderate Dem (in the Bill Clinton mold) in the White House might be just what the doctor ordered.
