In his first start back against the Oakland A's he threw a pitch to Bobby Kielty in the third inning and immediately reacted in a negative way in regards to his arm. The Twins manager and trainer immediately ran out to check on him and Liriano had to be removed. Not good for the Twins.

More like Gardenhire has Baker syndrome. It doesn't make sense to me to rush a guy back with an arm injury and expect him to contribute to the team in the stretch run. I don't know why the team just didn't shut him down for the rest of the season and have him rest for the offseason.

This whole thing just reeks of Kerry Wood, part two.

And yet, despite the fact that Gardenhire doesn't have "all his horses," the Twinkies continue to put up wins.

They must have more speed and clog the bases less.

They can really catch the ball.

I saw John Kruk saying they "know" how to play the "game" today. Good pitching, fielding, and running the bases plus timely hitting.

And if John Kruk says it you know it has to be true

You're damn right it has to be. Why don't we just get it over with and hire him as gm and Darren Daulton as manager?

Might be good to hire Dutchie because he'll have incentive to win the Cubs a World Series before the world ends in 2012

And just now, with a runner on 1st and one out, Morneau tries to extend a single into a double and gets tagged out easily at 2nd.

Now instead of 1st and 3rd with 1 out (sac fly in order), it's man on 3rd with 2 outs.

True, but a team dosent have a chance to go to the playoffs every year. This is probably the Twins year to win the world series. I think their pitching is solid(specially in the bullpen). Their lineup produces enough runs to win a game every day. Twins are my favorites to win the World Series if they make it to the playoffs.

I agree if you have a chance to get to the playoffs and contend for a ring you do anything you can to get there...

If it means jeapordizing your rookie ace's career, I disagree.

Why it turned out so well for us in '03 with Prior. Somebody should ask him what his thoughts on getting pushed to the limit in '03 are.

Why is this the Twins's year as opposed to say, next year or the year after it? Their core isn't getting broken up, and you could say they'd be adding to it with Garza and a full season of Liriano. Mauer, Morneau, Santana, Liriano, Cuddyer, Garza, Nathan, Neshek, Punto, Bartlett, none of those guys are going anywhere. Granted, they have had a couple guys play over their head(Tyner, Bartlett, some of the bullpen), but that's not a significant difference that it's worth jeopardizing a talent like Liriano to make a run this year.

My friend was right. He came back too soon from injury. I understand that making the playoffs is really important but you do not risk ruining a possible superstar if you do not have to.

Bingo. Well stated.

Exactly.

And I agree with TT...the core of the Twins lineup/pitching staff is very young and will remain in Minnesota for some time to come. It really isn't worth rushing one of your star pitchers back from injury after an injury that is as serious as an arm injury. If they throw Liriano again sometime before the regular season ends, they may inch right up on the Cubs for the dumbest team in the Majors.
