"I loved it," Nevin said of his brief stay with the Cubs. "Besides not winning a lot of games, there are great people here. It was fun to be part of a great, rich tradition. Playing in front of these fans was unbelievable and something I'll never forget"

Nevin frames jerseys from all the teams he's played on and hangs them in his home.

"I'm sure the Cubs' one will be one I point to and I'll have a heck of a lot of stories to tell," he said.

Wow...a heck of a lot of stories, is this a party team? How long was he here again?

Heh, yea I thought of that too, his time was relatively short. The whole experience of playing at Wrigley Field must be a story in itself.

Other memorable Nevin moments:

Walkoff single vs. Cards

Domination of Roy Oswalt (2 HRs)

Check-swing double at Shea

Exactly! Karros was another class act; I wish he would release that video he shot of the 2003 run.

And so the Nevin era ends ... who needed him and his 832 OPS anyway.

Perhaps, if Jacque didn't get doubled-off on fly balls every other game or take out divots with his throws the Wrigley faithful wouldn't be as harsh.

Probably because you weren't in the clubhouse.

Phil has notoriously been perceived as someone who let the fame go to his head and treated others around him (non-players) as though they were beneath him.

what a bunch of happy losers, just what we all wanted when we got rid of perceived problems.

will the "clubhouse contingent" now concede that being happy or having "chemistry" doesn't necessarily make for a winning team?

I'll conceide. I was one of the ones for clubhouse chemistry after 04. But then again I didn't know we were going to lose Alou, Sosa, Wood, Prior and so much talent since then. Chemistry is very good. But you need TALENT first, and then maybe chemistry a close 2nd.

If A-rod was a "clubhouse cancer" would you still want him? Hell YES!!

Bruce Miles is in the Clubhouse almost every game, and he said something to that effect.

It seems to me Nevin wasn't so much a clubhouse cancer as he was a guy who would piss off reporters by barking at them for asking stupid questions in the process of defending his teammates. That sort of behavior will earn you a bad public image.

And team "chemistry" or character is almost certainly correlated with winning, but the causation is the other way: winning usually begets chemistry, not the other way around.

And Bruce is far from being the only one who has ever said anything similar.
