Jon Lester, SP BOS

News: The Boston Herald reported young Boston pitcher Jon Lester, who left the team with back woes, is being tested for an array of potential internal illnesses, including cancer, after he was detected with enlarged lymph nodes. "There are a lot of personal things going on here that weigh on us a lot more than the losses and wins," Curt Schilling told the paper in apparent reference to the 22-year-old left-hander, one of Boston's top prospects.

Possible cancer? Dang, I really hope this isn' true. Best of luck to Lester.

The Red Sox have had a Cub-like couple of weeks with the health of their players. Ortiz has an irregular heart-beat, Lester could have a serious illness, Ramirez with a bum knee, Pena with a bad wrist...

That car accident could be a blessing in disguise since it discovered the lymph nodes.

Their last week or so makes the Cubs look new and shiny by comparison. Irregular heart-beats and enlarged lymphnodes can potentially be serious in ways that transcend baseball.

[insensitive sarcasm] At least boston has a pennant race to lose . . . [/insensitive sarcasm]

Let this be a lesson to you kids:

Be careful of whom you make out with!

:?:

Yeah man, totally uncalled for, ending your sentence with a preposition like that.

It was grammatically correct in any case. :P

Also, look up mono. Swollen lymph nodes is the disease's calling card.

Don't forget about losing Varitek a few weeks ago as well.

Just mentioned on Sportscenter that Lester was diagnosed with lymphoma. He's going to begin treatment immediately. Terrible news.

Edit: Here's an article

Boston.com[/url]"]A statement released from the Lester family.

Jon Lester has been diagnosed with a treatable form of anaplastic large cell lymphoma and will begin treatment within the coming week.

Jon and his family wish to thank all those involved in his care at Massachusetts General Hospital. Our gratitude also extends to the Red Sox organization which has provided Jon and his family much needed support during this ordeal.

We thought my dad had lymphoma for awhile. Because they said the saw some moving cells or something like that in his lymph nodes. Well later on he came back with great news that it was no kind of cancer. They just said it was some kind of dandruff problem. He had lots of problem with his skin, you see.

Anyway during that time I found out, if found early, many types of lymphoma can and have been treated suscessfully. So this is not as life threatening as some cancers. So there is a bit of hope of Lester.

My dad has lymphoma right now and luckily his was caught in time. I certainly hope Lester has it much better than my pops has. He's had it rough with chemo.

I know it's rough. But if it cures, it's worth it.
