Swept by the Cardinals off of a Bennett grand slam on national TV.

 

Don't buy Dusty a ticket home and leave him there.

BOTTOM OF THE NINTH INNING

 

Howry in to pitch for the CUBS

Pujols singled to right field

Rolen grounded out to short, 6-3 , Pujols to second

Encarnacion grounded an IF single to third base , Pujols to third

Bellliard walked , Encarnacion to second

Miles grounded into a FC, 6-2, Pujols out at home, Encarnacion to third, Belliard to second

Bennett homered to left field , Encarnacion, Belliard & Miles scored

Look how shallow our outfield is. It's really evidence to how weak the outfielder's arms are.

 

Actually in that situation you have to have them shallow. Anything over their head is going to end the game anyway. Has nothing to do with their arm strength.

 

Sure it does. It doesn't matter now, but if you have a stronger arm, you can play deeper cause you could throw out a runner tagging from third from farther away.

 

With that situation in the 9th, the saying goes "play as far as your arm strength allows". How deep you play is directly proportional to your arm strength.

Point is though, doesnt matter what kind of arms you have in the outfield, they are going to be playing very shallow. Vladimir Guerrero would be playing shallow. Playing shallow allows you obviously to have a shorter throw to home, but also gives you a better chance to make a play on the ball in front of you, something you might not get to if you were playing at normal depth.

 

A routin flyball ends the game, there is no point in playing at a routine depth.
