I just heard on the radio that Glavine's blood clots are not serious and he could be back in a week. That Likely hurts the chance of Rusch to the Mets.

I'm glad that he's ok and it's not life threatening. I like the go to Boston idea for Glendon better anyway!

Boston is desperate for a lefty in the bullpen, as shown by the last 5 games.

And the money to pay for Rusch in 2007. Let's keep the faith!

Doesn't matter, all another team has to do is put in a claim on Rusch and Hendry doesn't even need to work out a trade, he can just let that team have Rusch, which includes his contract. Just getting rid of him is enough of a return on the trade if you aren't saddled with the contract.

True, but I'm sure Rusch already passed through waivers near the beginning of August when Hendry probably put anybody he might want to deal on waivers.

Can you pass through waivers while on the DL? :?:

I don't think you can go through waivers on the DL, but if he went on waivers immediately in August, he might have passed them already before he went on the DL on the 3rd of August. It's hard to tell though with these things.

But I don't think a team would gamble like that. If I were the Mets or Sox and wanted Glendon I'd let him slide through and strike a deal then. I don't think he's that hot of a commodity to compete over.

it works funny because teams will block other teams from getting a player. the Padres once made a huge gamble and took on a big contract by claiming Randy Myers long after he was useful for the sole purpose of stopping a different team from getting him. so in this instance, some other team, maybe even the Cardinals, might make a claim to prevent the Mets from getting a pitcher that has been known to dominate them so they don't have to face him in the playoffs.

even with the return of Glavine, the Mets are still dangerously thin on pitching. an alleged rubber arm like Glendon can be very beneficial to them by making spot starts and saving pen innings through September.

If a player can be traded while on the DL why can't he be waived?

any team that blocks rusch from going to a contender because they don't want him to help that contender has not been watching much baseball!

anyway it's a win-win for the cubs...put rusch through waivers witha deal in mind..anyone claims him can have him and his contract..don't even care about a prospect!

aren't injuries great! first neifi then rusch and possibly pierre. to bad the yanks didn't go after jones...we would be out of every horrible contract that hendry signed this year!

how about this one...send prior through if he can throw at all. see if we can send him toboston who is desperate for any pitching help! they might gamble on him...and he would get through. i hope that prior comes back healthy but i seriously doubt he ever will...he is a chance to get out of his deal. giving us even more money to spend next year! not that it would get spent but at least we could dream!

you can not end a players career on the dl. which waiving is theoretically doing...even though he can be picked up. actually, you can do it but you will have to pay a huge settlement to the player. it's easier to wait and do it when they are activated.

??????

You have to pay a waived player his full salary anyway, why would you have to pay him even more just because he was on the DL?

Maybe it's the Kingsport Mets he's about to be traded to.

I think it might have been The Met (Metropolitan Opera) thats was interested. They needed someone to fill this role............................................

The sad thing is that he'll stink it up so bad with the Cubs that with his $3 mil contract and his +7.00 ERA he will be unmoveable. Why hasn't this guy been DFA'd can someone please answer this question.

Hendry doesn't like to admit mistakes. And Fatty McTits Rusch is the biggest one.

My wife, who does the transportation planning for the Mets, had a meeting with Dave Howard, the #2 guy in the organization in the morning. She asked if the Mets were really trying to bring Rusch back, and he said they "all got a good laugh out of that one."

I sat next to Jerry Krause at the game last night and I begged him to have the Yankees trade for Glendon.

I think Jerry might have a soft spot for Glendon...they are very similar in stature.

Unless Hendry's clone is GM somewhere, we're stuck with Rusch.

of course a few days ago most people here thought the same thing about nefi and they actually got a good prospect for him. if hendry cant trade him, i look for him to be released before next year. there are too many talented young pitchers who deserve a shot for rusch to be taking up a 25 man spot.

Glendon is a crafty lefty with a veteran presence that could help any contending team. He's a versatile pitcher who can both start and relieve. While it's sad that things aren't working out with the Cubs, he just needs to pitch on a team where the games actually matter. Glendon would be a fine addition to the Mets, and better yet, since he is under contract for next year, he'd be more than just a stretch-run acquisition. If baseball has taught me anything, it is that you can never have enough Glendon Rusch-type pitchers around.

Good luck and Godspeed, Glendon.

(This kind of post worked with Neifi, so I'm giving it another shot.)

Jerry Krause no longer works for the Yankees and is now working for the Mets' organization.

And now the truth.
