Did anyone hear Colin bash Cubs fans today? He discussed the disadvantes of playing in Wrigley and also stated that Cubs fans were the dumbest in baseball for perpetually supporting the team w/o receiving a quality product.

Cowherd iterated that Wrigley is the main reason that Cubs fans have not and will not see a World Series.

Day Games - he states that the Cubs are at a disadvantage b/c of the number of these games. He failed to articulate why playing day games are a disadvantage, but I can only assume that he backs many of the same arguments that have been made here. (#1 Players are sometimes accustomed to playing at night before joining the Cubs, and it takes some time to get acclimated to regularly seeing the ball during the day; #2 The Cubs regularly return from a road trip late at night and then play the next day at 1:20, etc.)

Wrigley as the "national treasure" - Cubs fans (baseball fans for that matter) travel from around the world to see games played in Wrigley every year. A large portion of every day's attendence is attributed to fans that do not live in Chicago. That said, the Tribune does not have to invest a tremendous amount of money and put a quality product on the field to generate a profit. Cubs fans will blindly follow no matter how badly the team plays.

Colin failed to metion that the Cubs have one of the highest payrolls in baseball. His fact finders could have at least made him privy to this piece of info. He sounded like an idiot. He was regurgitating crap that is spewed in the mainstream certainly w/o articulating his stance and likely without possessing a stance that is solid.

I agree about the day games. Too many 2nd half swoons to support the notion that it doesn't make a difference.

The stadium is only a problem because this team wasn't built to fit the stadium and we continually get clubbed to death by other teams. A team that plays in Wrigley needs to be able to out homer other teams and out pitch them too. It looked like we were headed that way after the 2003 season and then the wheels fell off.

yep...agree that he provides no insight. WNSP, the ESPN affiliate, is the only true sports radio station in Mobile, so I do often listen on my way to work, lunch, and home. Whenever I need to take an early lunch, his show is still playing unfortunately.

If Cowherd said it then I know it must be false.

He specifically made a jab directed at hardcore Cub fan teachers that "don't work during the summer and regularly travel 6 states to watch games at Wrigley". I'm not kidding...these were the exact words. What did you do to his oatmeal, Vance?

Anyway, I agree. He's an idiot and to exacerbate this he does not put effort into the show. He's hurting for material currently, and pulled this POS discussion out of the trash. I have no problems with the media bashing the Cubs. I wish they would more often. However, putting money into the product is not the core problem. It's more related to a poor philosophy and execution.

your first mistake was listening to this idiot

Amen! Cowherd is the most arrogant, pompous jerk in sports radio today. And who is he? He is nobody. His looks remind me of the character Jim Carrey played in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", you know, the Grinch. Not that this matters, just my opinion. But seriously, I bought satellite radio just so I could listen to sports radio without having to listen to his show (not many options in my area). The guy has never been wrong, just ask him. Except the time he "found" the sample questions to the Wonderlic Test on line and turned out he stole the whole bit from another web site. ESPN really needs to dump this guy and get someone that has a clue.

Other than not listen to his mindless drivel unless forced to do so because someone else is controling the radio, nothing.

He's an idiot.

Before anyone places any credence in his ramblins, keep in mind Mr. Cowherd once stated Jose Canseco should be in the HOF because, "No one in baseball is as famous as Canseco." He then went on to say that numbers shouldn't be the main criteria in determining who is in the HOF because fifty years from now, no one will care about what "numbers" a player has.

The man is an idiot. How he's managed to keep a radio audience this long is beyond me.

While most people might look to baseball reference or some other reputable source for facts, Cowherd pulls them out of his ass.

While some might go to STATS Inc for baseball knowledge, Cowherd just looks into his bowels and retrieves them from his ass.

People can blame the Tribune company all they want..but the fact

is that they authorized a 94 million dollar payroll.

Jim Hendry had the $$$$ he just screwed the pooch..bottom line.

Cowherd is a moron and a dooche.

Very few sports media people bother to fact check anymore, or construct a logical thought. Way, way too many of them rely on meaningless cliches and hyperbole when speaking/writing. It's something that makes enjoying watching a game really annoying.

Colin is an idiot when discussing Baseball... Basketball... Golf... well, pretty much everything but football.

He's even an idiot a lot of the time talking about the NFL.

He's pretty good talking about College football, though.

How much does in-stadium revenue (ticket sales, beer sales, hot dog sales, etc) contribute to the bottom line v.s. things like broadcast revenue?

About the whole day game thing.....how come it's more of a disadvantage to the Cubs, who play over 1/2 its games during the day, than it is for teams that come in Wrigley hardly ever playing day games? Seems like it would be the other way around. Whenever a team has to go to the west coast, it's said to be a disadvantage because of the unusually late game time. Why is that logic thrown out because of an unusually early game time?

you're absolutely right raw - the excuse that I've heard that is most plausible is that the sun wears the players out- also used by the rangers with regard to heat. I think the players don't like daygames because they want to go out at night.

Maybe the problem is they can start drinking at 6 instead of 11 and have to get up earlier.

Everyone read this

If you listen to his show ever again after reading the inane points he makes, you are a moron.

He's no Kornheiser

I liked Tony. He admitted when he didn't know some information and didn't just spout out crap just to make us respond. I hope ESPN replaces this guy sometime soon, he's had his chance.
