Are they going to have redo all 10 of these kicks because of keepers coming off of the line.

Solo never once came off the line. The Brazilian every single kick.

yeah no kidding. she was a solid yard out from the line on the last kick. i wonder if any of those would've been called if they'd been saved.

hope solo is indeed hot. thankfully brianna scurry wasn't around to be subbed in for her before the brazil match.

The very first kick was called after she saved it. I don't know if they would have called it a second time or not but it never stopped her from coming in early.

A little monday morning trivia.

Q. Who is the first (and only) American born player to win a men's FIFA world cup event at any level?

A. Mexico u-17 GK, Richard Sanchez (FC Dallas), is the first American-born player to win a FIFA World Cup at any level.

Next on my morning to do list, I'm gonna try to get the stray eyelash out of my eye using the pliers on my leatherman because I'm a glutton for punishment.

I found all the "off the line" consternation pretty funny considering Scurry was a yard out every PK when they beat China or whoever for the gold.

I don't know the details, but Scurry was on the postgame, and she was saying the same thing, but she implied that that wasn't a rule in back then and that she thought she was the reason the rule was changed.

The only one I thought was particularly bad was the first American shootout PK that was re-taken. The Braziian keeper basically ran at her, I was almost laughing at how bad it was.

He meant he's played FiFA on playstation his whole life.

even in that case he should know about red cards.

Hey jerks! I know what the heck a redcard is but they made it sound like they were playing with one less player on the field. I mean sure they had a player who was unable to come back into the game but that wasn't what they made it sound like. Also I only watched the last 30 minutes so I didn't see the redcard which would have made more sense. I don't think being a player down would really be that big of a deal though, a well trained player should be able to play most the game without resting, its not like you are sprinting constantly, half the time you sit and wait for the ball to get near you. Was it a good player who was kicked out or a sub?

I don't know a lot about soccer, although I did play a lot from about 5-13. But my understanding is that a red card means a player is kicked out of the game and the team plays without a substitute for that player the rest of the game, ie. one less player on the field.

You don't know what a red card is.

If you get red carded, you leave the game. There is no substitute. You play one man (woman) down for the rest of the match.

That can mean only two things:

- someone got red (actually, it means one team got one red card more than the other team - I've seen some weird [expletive] happen during soccer games)

- a player got injured and was unable to continue and the team has already used the maximum number of substitutions allowed.

WTF! Seriously how old are you? Is this RedFlash?

It wasn't that they made it sound like they were playing with 1 less player, its that they actually were playing with 1 less player. The players had no problem playing the whole game down a man, but being down a goal and having to reorganize the defense and still push forward down a man against any quality team is not a simple task.

Wtf seriously? I've played in games when people get red cards but they just get kicked out of the game. That was not a rule in any league I've ever played in and I played rec and competitive for 12 years. I have absolutely 0 professional soccer knowledge though and never watch FIFA, so thats new to me. That seems like a completely stupid rule though and makes their win even more shocking. P.S. I'm 24, why did you ask my age? Is this a new rule or something?

you played for 12 years and didn't know that when a player gets a red card, you can't replace him?????

That isn't a rule in American Youth leagues. Yellow card is a warning 2 I think kicks you out, and a red card kicks you out for that game but you can replace him. Did any of you guys play or did you just assume Fifa rules were universal?

I mean I guess I could be wrong because red cards happened like once every few years but I've never recalled that happening.

It is definitely a rule everywhere that i've ever heard of. I really find it hard to believe you played any kind of organized soccer that let you replace someone that was sent off.

I suppose maybe I never saw a red card in a competitive league before and I'm sure recreation has different rules since its co-ed and everything. Eitherway that is a stupid rule, they don't play 4-5 in basketball when someone gets tossed.

They don't play 11-10 in football when somebody takes a holding penalty either.

There is nothing wrong the rule.

I'd argue that playing 1 person down is a little bit of an advantage, especially for what the US received the red card for. If you pull a Zidane and headbutt someone then maybe it is justified, but kicking a player out for his behavior in any sport and also penalizing the team is too extreme imo.

Also from what I heard from ESPN FIFA is going to reconsider the rule since a lot of people evidently complain about it.
