I honestly hope they keep Sanchez rather than hire someone competent. They have too much talent to keep playing to their opponent's level.

It would be a nightmare if they hired some solid, foreign manager.

Please keep hiring your unqualified, former heroes, Mexico.

Jorge Campos or Luis Hernandez, please.

Those were my thoughts. I would still prefer Luis Hernandez would get run over by a bus.

Nope, my fault.

Spector is in for Canada, btw. This moves Edu to the midfield and that central mid pairing with Orozco could very well be the future of the US back line.

Apparently Feilhaber walked into the camp like he was the s/God's gift to soccer and for whatever reason got into some fisticuffs with Adu. If this is true, peace out Benny.

More rumors coming out is that the team feels over-trained and over-coached by Nowak.

The players aren't psyched about Pete? I'm shocked.

Oh man, I know nothing about soccer. I'm totally going to get crushed in this league.

BUT NEXT YEAR I'LL BE A POWERHOUSE

You want help filling out your roster?

Yeah. When is the draft?

I'm going to fart around on the mls site for a little bit and see what I can figure out, and what some of my initial questions should be and I'll post them here.

No draft. You go to the fantasy site and pick your team. You have a salary cap of 5 mil to fill out your roster and you pick from every player in the league. You can tell by the player's value who is good and who isn't for the most part.

I heard about the Benny/Freddy thing. If that's true it makes Nowak's decision much more understandable.

However, overtrained and overcoached? By an arrogant former international who had a reputation for being a difficult tool? Noooooooo Waaaaaay.

Good, the USSF is so flipping dumb for putting that guy in charge of a youth side with some real talent.

+1.

I still don't know anyone who likes Gulati, btw.

I don't think I had a real dislike for him until the Klinnsman debacle. I mean seriously, one of the best coaches in the world who has the capability to lead the US to the next level wrapped himself in a bow and pretty much handed himself to the USSF for the taking and they completely botched the deal.

Has Klinsmann done enough to be thought of as one of the best coaches in the world? He's promising, sure, but it could all so easily be a one-off thus far.

Sure, it might have been a one-off. But if you're hiring a coach for the USMNT, and you can choose between Klinsmann and Bradley, who would you take? Or, put another way, would you rather have McLaren or Klinsmann?

Red Card[/url]"]The U.S. national will face England in an exhibition at Wembley Stadium in London on May 28. This will mark the United States' first game against the Three Lions in England since 1994. The match will be broadcast at 2 pm on ESPN Classic and Univision.

............

For the United States, the game against FIFA's No. 11 ranked team will be one more match on the "I'll fight anybody -- I don't give a..." tour. The United States already has a match scheduled against No. 3 Spain on June 4 and a match against No. 1 Argentina on June 8 at Giants Stadium. Next up for the United States is a road game against Poland (No. 24) on March 26.

...........

In other Three Lion news, David Beckham and Theo Walcott have been included in coach Fabio Capello's provisional 30-man roster for next week's friendly against France. Should Beckham play, he would earn his 100th cap.

NOTES: Many of you have heard that Barcelona might be coming to Chicago this year. For now, all I can say is that you shouldn't jump to conclusions. Hopefully I can get you more details later today.

I can see the appeal of Klinsmann, but he's still something of a risk at this stage - that's all I'm saying.

U.S.A. in England? That'll be interesting. I'll be able to properly update my American PES team for the game.

Klinsmann would be the USMNT coach today, were it not for one thing he demanded: compelte control over the youth sides and player development. He wanted a situation similar to the setup he had in Germany with Juergen Low and the German youth teams. That setup is pretty much the reason that a mediocre German side made it to extra time in the WC semis (along with being the host nation).

USSF wouldn't give it to him. I don't necessarily disagree with that decision-Klinsi probably isn't the most experienced coach around, and giving him that much of a free hand would have been risky for any Federation to do. On the other hand, that isn't why USSF refused.

USSF refused because they have a lot of "their" people in those development positions. People who had worked in ODP and development for years People who would have been replaced quickly because they are incompetent at their jobs. Gulati didn't want to see his peeps booted, and balked at the demand.

What's a cap? A hat someone earns for playing on the English national team?

All countries call it "cap" but it just means how many appearances you have representing your team.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_cap

A cap is an appearance for a select team, such as a school, county or international team in sports. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap (meaning an item of headgear) to every player in an international match of Association Football; however, the act of awarding a cap is now international and is applied to other sports. The practice was first approved on May 10, 1886 for Association Football, after a proposal made by N. L. Jackson, founder of Corinthians F.C.:

That all players taking part for England in future international matches be presented with a white silk cap with red rose embroidered on the front. These to be termed International Caps.

Today it might seem an unusual and perhaps even a bizarre practice to present a player with an actual cap but in the early days of football the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, with the result that a team's players would often take the field in a variety of different coloured shirts, and each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap or other headgear. An early illustration of the first international football match between England and Scotland in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls and the English wearing a variety of school caps.

Actual caps are not given any more (caps for friendly matches still exist, and each player gets one cap per international competition), but the term "cap" for an international or other appearance has been retained. Thus, a cap is awarded for each game played and so a player who has played x games, for the team, is said to have been capped x times or have won x caps.

Association football (soccer)

The world record holder for the highest number of international caps on January 24, 2006 is American Kristine Lilly, who has over 300 caps in women's association football. In men's association football, the record is held by Mohamed Al-Deayea from Saudi Arabia who has 181 caps. The first footballer to win 100 international caps was Billy Wright of Wolves and England. Wright went on to appear 105 times for England, 90 of them as captain.

In this case, an appearance on the national team in an international game.

Tonight's lineup per Ives. I'd rather see Gaven in there than Kljestan after how well Eddie has played and how much of a nose dive Sacha's has taken.
