The last 5 minutes of the Man U/Aston Villa game has been pretty darn good. In a complete downpour, there have been 3 missed amazing scoring chances followed by another goal for Rooney.

And it continues. Both sides are letting it fly. 4-0 Manchester United after another Rooney goal.

Ronaldo is just flat out silly. Who else attempts a backheel from 12 yards out?

I think we're seeing one of the greatest players ever, without exaggeration.

I think he will need to win a Euro and a World Cup to be in the Zidane/Pele/Beckenbauer/Maradona grouping, but I think he'll do it. He is an unstoppable force of nature: the speed, the power, the finesse, the shot, the hair, the abs...

Or Portsmouth.

Oohh, Pompey. I hadn't thought of that. That would be a great, great fit.

He's dreamy.

And I think a few CL titles along with the EPL goals record that he's going to set this year should get him in that team photo. I don't know that Portugal is going to have a good enough team for him to carry. We'll see, though. He's already gotten them to a WC Semi.

Of all the realistic options, Pompey or Reading would seem to be the best. Reading is the homeless person's Arsenal.

Ok, seriously, I'm excited for the MLS season even though I don't have a team, but I'm already sick of these FSC pbp guys. Bretos and Sullivan are probably doing the Galaxy later tonight. Bretos isn't the greatest, but I at least like Sullivan. This crew, however, is just bad.

holy crap the Fire are terrible

Not as bad as their offseason has been.

They'll be quite average this season.

Blanco equalized in the 92nd minute and the Fire escaped with a point.

I missed it, though.

3000 Toronto fans, who presumably wish they were still living in England, tried to make believe that they had a rivalry with Columbus and traveled to Crew Stadium for the opener today.

They were destroyed 2-0.

It's bittersweet for me. On one hand I'd like Toronto to be a power or at least competitive because their fans are the best. On the other hand, Mo Johnston is a disgrace. An arrogant, red-faced disgrace. I love seeing him lose. This cocky pos thinks he can bring in second division players from England or Scottish Premier league players and win games? Didn't last season teach him anything? He has allegedly said off the record that he can bring these second rate players and win in MLS. Uh, Mo, how's that workin for ya? How about you stop underselling MLS and bring in some real players, bud. You fans deserve it. The reality is, that other than Rangers and Celtic, MLS is a better quality league than the SPL. He better pray the rumored Amado Guevera deal goes through or they are going to struggle to win a game all year. Pretty funny that Mr. Scotland is going to rely on someone who plays in the Honduran league to save his season. Reality is that mud mucking, Scottish football doesn't work here. You need athletes.

[expletive] American soccer broadcasting just made us miss a goal. They were showing a replay while a free kick was setting up and Cristman scored. 2-0 New England with no muscle shirt in the lineup. Memo to FSC and ESPN: You don't have to fill every second of a soccer broadcast with action. Talk less, don't show replays unless there is a long break in play and for God's sake, research the game you are calling.

That will be my MLS rant for the day.

Wow. Columbus drew 3,002 fans?

Toronto's fans are great. They sold what, 16,000 season tickets? That's incredible for the MLS.

I got bitched at by a bunch of Crew season ticket holders in Columbus at the US-Mexico 2005 WCQ qualifier for standing up.

Needless to say this means people from Columbus suck it both long and hard. As if anyone didn't know that already.

To be fair, they had nearly 14,000 tickets sold today. And the Fire won't do much better for their home opener.

Wow again. Apparently Seattle already has 13,000 season ticket deposits.

-Paul Caliguri is an awful color guy. I think he said something about the "Spirit of their camradierie".

-FSC is run by interns. How do you miss a goal off a restart? Too many replays.

-Toronto FC fans deserve better. Any team in MLS that travels that well would deserve better.

-They should contract Columbus, and move Crew Stadium to New England piece by piece so that Revs don't have to play on field turf.

The USL Sounders are just about the perfect fanbase for Seattle FC or whatever it's called. They draw really well, and if Henry really is going there, they'll be pleased.

Portland's USL team rivals it in fan base and would be a perfect MLS city, I just don't see them getting an expansion team. FIFA regulates 20 teams per league so here is my plan:

Add a team to Portland, move Salt Lake to St. Louis (RSL's owner also owns the St. Louis Blues), add a second New York team, Montreal gets a team and get a team in Phoenix. I realize it's a billion degrees here in the summer and that no ownership groups wants to build a dome, but I guarantee a team here would draw like crazy. CRAZY I say.

NY, NY, DC, NE, Philly, Chi, StL, KC, Phx, LA, CHV, SJ, Portland, Seattle, Montreal, Colorado, Columbus, Toronto, Miami (downtown this time guys) and Atlanta (great USL town). Do this very slowly. Like the next 10 or so years. Start marketing better to the Hispanic and White Hipster communities, make money and get raise raise raise that salary cap when feasible.

Portland's USL team has that crazy logger guy who hangs from the rafters of the stadium during the games, right? That would be an awesome MLS city, and I agree 100% with St Louis as an MLS expansion city. It's actually insane that Phily got theirs first.

I'm actually happy the St. Louis deal fell through. They were going to build their facilities in Collinsville, IL. Go ahead and build your training grounds, offices and youth facilities there, but the stadium needs to be closer to downtown.

Apparently he retired a few months ago.

Now that would be cool to see at an MLS game.

 That backheel goal was great, you could tell even Ronaldo thought so because he actually smiled during the celebration, instead of his now common pure arrogance. His flick to Rooney for Rooney's first was also superb.
