Wouldn't that be a kick in the groin to the Cards today if Mateo throws

a gem!

I would find it absolutely hilarious if the Cardinals lost! 1 win in Chicago all year? That's pathetic!

First Clemens, now Carpenter. Mateo just can't catch a break, can he?

After being on the opposing team's scrap heap at the beginning of the season, there's only upside in this match-up:

The Cards' other late arriving pitcher, Rule 5 draftee Juan Mateo, will throw for the first time on Sunday. Mateo has not impressed Cardinals brass thus far with the condition in which he arrived at camp.

"I can't say this for sure," said Duncan, "but it appears to me that the only one who might have come in here without really doing a lot of work before he got down here is Mateo."

Greetings from beautiful Grants, NM !! (I would have stopped an hour ago, but I can't spell Albikerkee !!)

Is Barrett hurt? Why is Blanco starting for the 2nd day in a row?

Dusty's allergic to putting the best offensive team on the field.

It's Sunday dude. Blanco catches on Sundays. Plus he's 2-4 lifetime off of Carp. That's a .700 BA from where I come from. I got to put the best lineup on the field to protect the integrity of the game.

If Blanco is starting, that's why I didn't understand Barrett's off day yesterday-he kills Suppan, and Blanco didn't. Today, Barrett has hit 2 HR's off of Carpenter, but is overall 6 for 29. Blanco is 3 for 8, so I guess that is why Dusty is starting him today-but if he was going to start Blanco today, he should have started Barrett yesterday.

Hopefully the batter-pitcher matchups don't hold true. Usually there is 3-4 people who have hit the pitcher hard-today, Blanco is the only one who is even decent against Carpenter.

I realize Dusty is probably making decisions based on batter/pitcher matchups. But to make a decision based on 8 ABs is completely friggin stupid.

I agree-and I'm not sure I would advocate making decisions off of Blanco's numbers-Barrett's numbers are a much better sample size, and might be enough to give him the day off-if you hadn't given him the day off yesterday against a pitcher who he has consistently hit hard.

According to Hit and Run on the Score this am Barrett is out with a contusion on his bicep, caused by the collision with Eckstein the other day. Same reason Eckstein is not playing.

Beautiful song. Too bad it'll be outlawed one day.

God Bless America is quite possibly the dumbest pseudo-patriotic song ever.

Why? My vote would go for "America, we stand as one"

Well, it's a terrible song with no rhythm for one thing, and then you add in the obvious problems with "well does God bless other countries too or just us?" It's just not a song I like hearing.

Miles strikes out looking
