Well, it's a terrible song with no rhythm for one thing, and then you add in the obvious problems with "well does God bless other countries too or just us?" It's just not a song I like hearing.

 

The history of the song is what I like. Written by Irving Berlin while serving in the first world war and then revived during WWII. It is intentionally lacking in rhythm and thick substance as it is a response to the uber-complex "Star Spangled Banner".

After being on the opposing team's scrap heap at the beginning of the season, there's only upside in this match-up:

 

The Cards' other late arriving pitcher, Rule 5 draftee Juan Mateo, will throw for the first time on Sunday. Mateo has not impressed Cardinals brass thus far with the condition in which he arrived at camp.

 

"I can't say this for sure," said Duncan, "but it appears to me that the only one who might have come in here without really doing a lot of work before he got down here is Mateo."

This is why I'm excited about today's game. The Cardinals losing to the guy they let go this spring because they deemed he wasn't going to be ready to pitch in the majors this season.
